A friend plays Tau (I do not) ..... and was wondering if this would take too much converting or be the wrong size for a Tau Supremacy Armour? It stands around 8 inches tall without the boosters. Just wanted to get opinions, thanks.

I wouldn't have a problem with it personally...but expect a resounding "no" if you ever try to use it in a game at a gw store and/or the majority of tournaments...if it's only going to be used in friendly games, in a non-gw-store environment, then go for it I say...

Most tournaments stopped caring what models people use around about when GW stopped supporting them.
While there are some hold-outs who insist on GW models (for various reasons), for the most part tournaments won't care so long as it's not overly difficult for your opponent to tell what it is supposed to be and is around the right size.

ah ok, cool ...I've not actually been to a tournament myself - not particularly interested in the more competitive side of the game - so I was just going by what I've heard, which, thinking about it, was probably fairly old and outdated info...good to hear tournaments seem to be operating a little more on common sense these days

For me theres something jarring about the detail on that model not being consistant with 40k models ,mybe once its been converted and painted it will be diffrent . I would still play friendly games

No. It looks nothing like the real model, nothing like the Tau style, and is not even close to WYSIWYG. It looks like yet another case of "I'm too cheap to buy the real model, here's a $5 toy from walmart" and that kind of thing shouldn't be accepted.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Thing is, that's no $5 Walmart toy. That's an armored VF11 from Macross 7. That never had a toy release even. As far as I'm aware, it was only ever officially released as a garage kit conversion kit for Bandai's 1/144 VF-11 kit. I think there was a limited release transformable 1/100 scale garage kit of it released for Wonderfest as well. Either way, an Armored VF-11 would likey cost about as much or more than the Supremacy suit since those garage kits were over $100 to begin with and have been out of production for at least 20 years.
Beyond all of that, regardless of which size VF-11 your friend is using, it's going to be smaller than the Supremacy suit. I also would have to question why- if that is one of those old rare VF-11 kits- your friend would want to risk damaging such a rare model by using it on the tabletop?

As with all kit-bashing questions, I return to the same three points.
1) Is it accurate to the scale/size of the replaced item.
2) Do its weapons accurately reflect the loadout of the replace item.
3) Have you put in some actual effort to make it look the part.
As long as you meet these three criteria, I've zero problem. I draw the line when people get ultra-cheap or ultra-lazy and start pushing the boundaries of why we're even playing the game.

It would take some converting ..and I would not personally do it unless my entire Tau Army was Macross based so the models looked right together on the table..Just make sure its close in size to what it represents..(ie even my original ork trukks have been converted to buggies and replaced slowly with newer ork trukks)
Make sure you follow Rule of Cool as well ..
and make sure it is the right size and one the correct base for the model it represents during conversion
