Hello all...

I decided to buy and paint our favorite monstrous Magos, Belisarius Cawl.

All told, it took about an hour and half and consists of 14 simple steps. Seriously... the scheme is 90% dry brushing and base coating. There's almost zero highlight work outside a basic one color highlight on the robe and a wash on the hand. Stick with the basics and table standard is easily in reach!

The color scheme is as such...
1. Prime Black
2. Dry brush Leadbelcher over all the metal bits
3. Base coat the cloth in Xereus Purple
4. Highlight the cloth with Genestealer Purple
5. Base coat various bits in Balthasar Gold
6. Base coat various bits in Warpstone Glow
7. Highlight the Warpstone Glow bits with Moot Green
8. Over brush the base with Rhinox Hide
9. Dry brush the base with Steel Legion Drab
10. Light dry brush the base with Flayed One Flesh
11. Rim the base with Steel Legion Drab
12. Base coat the skin with Bugman's Glow
13. Wash the skin with Reikland Fleshshade
14. Dry brush the skin with Cadian Fleshtone

I really like everything you've done, but don't like what you haven't done. Your color pallet is good but you need more metalics to break up all of that silver. A dark metalic for the hoses, brass or copper for the ends of some of the tentacles, red or black for the ax handle and black/white the skull/cog symbol on the ax.I hope my comments are helpful.

Wow I had not thought of changing his colours from the standard red at all but that really works, bravo.

I love it when ICs are painted to match the rest of an army

I like the texture you've got on the larger metal panels. They look almost rough or grainy, which is a nice contrast to the usual smooth effect you normally see.

Great paintjob. I don't particularly love the purple (despite having a purple army myself), but the brushwork is damn nice.

I totally, totally agree with what you're saying. I'm somewhat constrained by the rest of the army. I wanted Cawl to match everything else and the other models have a limited palette. I originally needed to paint up about 1000 points in one weekend. I'll go back some day soonish and jazz up the weapons and hoses with some more detail work.
