Exactly. Since it was (1) old rules and (2) had complaints about errors, I just stayed the hell away. I'm in, now. Especially with Tau being the new hotness. I need to keep up with the local Tau player's shenanigans. Also, I want to read the story.

The story is actually quite elaborate, however it seems "fan-fictionish" in that Imperium is decidedly made look bit stupid so that Tau get to shine. Also the story has sort of plot holes in that Imperium seems unable to use their space/orbit control for their advantage.

I didn't feel it was anything like fanfic at all. The story, like most stuff from FW shows the Imperium as so bogged down with incompetents, sycophants, and bureaucracy that it simply can't manage anything properly. It was certainly far better than the first two books. I'd get this one if I didn't already own the previous edition.

There’s nothing ‘thin’ about it. The book’s a monster. Easily one of the biggest I own. But yes, it is riddled with mistakes.

I’d buy this version... but it just doesn’t seem worth it. IA1 2E made sense as it collected all the vehicles from across all the published IA books and put it into one book, and then the Aeronautica one did the same for the aircraft. But this really would be buying big expensive book for some updated rules.

I guess Anphelion gets an update when Tyranids get one.

Maybe the new edition fixed the embarrassing grammar in the original.

Sadly it won’t fix the story.

Highlights include:

“We need to capture this vital objective. We have a few companies of Astartes at our disposal to take this massively vital objective... so let’s send the Elysians!”

“Ha! The Tau are so backward and naive that they have no idea how to deal with Titans. These Titans are totally wrecking their shi... what the? Super-powerful Tau flyers that have never been seen before (or since) just came out of nowhere and defeated our Titans! Are they Dues Ex Machinca-pattern Tigersharks?”

Forge World are fond of having the Imperial lose in everything they do. The problem with IA3 is that they had to really try to make the Imperium lose, leading to a lot of nonsensical situations.

I do wish there was a more affordable way to get FW books here in Canada. When's all said and done, they're $100 or more after duties and brokerage fees on books. Unless one is absolutely critical to what I want to do, I just can't justify buying them.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

That's every scifi war book, really. It's just an unwritten rule that you're allowed to ignore orbital bombardment to avoid the story becoming little more than a series of "and then they nuked everything in a 100km radius, the end". And TBH, IA3 was way better than IA8 about it. At least IA3 has the Imperium trying to hold a valuable planet intact instead of just destroying a single target on a worthless planet.

As for the book, I play Tau and IG and want to do an Elysian army, so ordering it was pretty obvious. I'm just kind of annoyed about FW spending the past few months lying about the 6th edition Elysian update, promising that there would be a pdf update "soon" when now it's obvious that they were just stalling until they could put the rules into another $90 book.

Pretty much. Hope you can afford an entire new book for it.

Can anyone confirm that the IA3 Second ed. book does not have the Apoc Rules Index like IA1 Second, IA12 and IAA

The Picture of the table of contents on the forgeworld site shows super heavies in book but no Apoc Rules Index like IA1 Second, IA12 and IAA

This could be an indicator of 6th Apoc revamp

Hi there,
In today’s newsletter, the ancient war-constructs of the Necrons are reinforced, with the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel now available to pre-order.

Necron Canoptek Tomb Sentinel

In the ages-old Necron panoplies of war, the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is all but unique. One of the last war machines designed by the Cryptek master-artificer Toholk the Blinded, at the Silent King’s command it was given over to the Praetorians for wider dissemination across the Necron dynasties before the Great Sleep.

Both guardian and aggressor, the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is a heavily modified variant of the insectile Tomb Stalker, which forgoes that device’s hellish close combat ability and instead mounts an Exile cannon, a powerful weapon which blasts objects out of existence, casting them into other dimensional realms beyond the material universe. Phasing through the paltry defences of lesser races like a phantom, the Canoptek Tomb Sentinel can deploy this terrible device into the close confines of an enemy stronghold with devastating effects.

The Canoptek Tomb Sentinel is a detailed multi-part resin kit designed by Will Hayes, which offers a wealth of dynamic modelling opportunities, much like the Tomb Stalker. This model is available to pre-order now for despatch from Friday 31st May.

Thanks,

Forge World

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this appears to be £6 more expensive than the Tomb Stalker because it has a different head?

LOL FW is starting to adopt GW pricing.

The price could be because they have to make two extra parts for the body. I always thought that was why the Tomb Stalker seemed like good value, because they only needed to sculpt one section for the body then cast it multiple times.

Regardless, Tomb Stalker still looks better.

Yes because shut up.

That was actually a fairly accurate paraphrasing of the reception I got when images of this stuff came out around adepticon and I was displeased with the level of effort that went into the IA12 releases to date.

Forgeworld I am disappoint.

I like to see FW using the tried and tested method of extending a base with some rock if the model it too long for the base.

Also I have been disappointed with the scope and ideas that have gone into the Necron FW range. They are super cool undead robots and this is the best FW can come up with.
