Hi ho folks,

Had quite an absence from this forum for a while. Starting a new project and thought it would be nice to share!

The theme behind this is the Catachan 183rd lead by Colonel "Death" Strike. There is a little bit of fluff for this in the warzone Pandorax book but plenty of room the expand this. For me, an army is about the fluff and character. I want these chaps to be guerrilla fighters, always on the back foot; scroungers and scoundrels. As I expand I want to be writing up fluff an story with the characters, rather than creating a competitive army.

Army wise I will be using the genestealer cult rules. I feel this fits the theme more and will actually make them usable! Hopefully it will be the perfect balance between fluff and and playability

Also the first full project with the airbrush! So will be experimenting with that and hopefully creating a scheme that is super easy to pull off and mean I actually paint these guys up!

So whilst I wait for the troops to arrive I have painted up a leman russ and a halftrack (goliath I guess) as a practice!

The leman russ was built up with three heavy flamers to fit the theme. I gave it the eradicator so these could be used and dish out more ignores cover.

Also made some spare cultists into some "lascannon-carbone" (mining laser) welding chaps.

Just waiting on some deliveries now to get stuck in!

Awesome idea to use GS Cults rules for a Catachan stealth guerilla fighters excellent way to bring some rarely used models to a competitve scene, and fluffy as hell too

For metamorphs and suchlike you could quite easily have cybernetically enhanced dudes too

Yeah, the gsc kind of fit an ambush army perfectly, you've got a good thing going here!

It's a good thing they have human hqs, because i'm not sure what could work for a patriarch.

Anyway i look forward to more!

Thanks! Thats a neat idea. I as wondering how to incorporate the lash/crush/scythe rules and was going to justify it being adrenaline shots using some crazy plant toxins. I will have a unit of 5 metamorphs to act as a commando/command squad I think.

Me too! I think I will be leaving him out. I considered Marbo but the T5 and psyker stuff put me off.

Got a fair bit of stuff coming now and list ideas are forming. Will be making a cult insurrection detatchment for sure, having infiltrated off the bat is pretty necessary to make ambushing viable I think. Looking like a basis of a Neophyte Cavalcade with The Doting Throng, I dont want to stray from Neophytes (jungle fighters). My "command squad" will consist of a Primus, Iconward and some metamorphs riding in a goliath. This guys will have a fair bit of character.

I hope to take an allied contingent of astra militarum, mainly so I can take some shiny stuff and use some ratlings I have lying around. These will be camo vets with camo command squad and take the backfield role. This should provide a fair amount of distinction between the guardsmen and the "neophytes", even though in practice they will be part of the same force and both Jungle Fighters.

So I have about 60 infantry on the way, most painted up but a few now deals off ebay. We also have a sentinal and a leman russ which will both be getting a dettol bath!

More updates as stuff starts to arrive.

Cheers!

Nice work there. The camo pattern on the vehicles looks damned good. I'm also really digging the Hanomag conversion. It's sweet.

Great idea using the GSC rules for a hit n run Catachan force. Looking forward to how this develops.

Got a battered leman russ in the post today, churrently enjoying a overnight trip to the dettol spa.

With this came some nos command sprues so I put Strike together with some pals.

More to come when his grunts arrive!

Got the paints out today

Finished off five guys as a "test" and airbrushed up the command as well as a load more jungle fighters.

I wanted this scheme to be easy to achieve and still look decent. This was a basic airbrush Vallejo olive green followed by Russian uniform in a zenithal type technique. Then all I painted on was the skin and bananas. Metals were only given as a highlight, this gave quite a nice overall camo look.

Still undecided if I will do dubbin camo over their arms and faces. I am a little worried that they are a bit brighter than the vehicles, especially the bases. I will probably have to sort something make the vehicles pop a little more, probably some numbers and decals

That's all for today!

Some camo body paint would go a long ways toward the Vietnam era special forces vibe that the Catachan embody. But ultimately, this is all about "Your Dudes". So, you have to go with what makes you happy.

Some transfers would add some personality to the vehicles. But they look outstanding as is.

Decals would be good! they really help a vehicle with a simpler color scheme look right.

Looking good so far man! Love the ambush/ assault theme.

Have you thought about some beast riding guys to stand in for the tyranids? Like a primaris psyker on a Catachan devil for a Patriarch, and some little xeno beasts for genestealers? Also, maybe Ogryns for the Aberrants?

And I think patchy camo on the faces and arms would look very nice indeed.

Looking good except for that one poor trooper that's come down with a nasty case of jungle mould line on his arm.

That's a neat idea

Not sure about the fluffiness of a psyker riding a Catachan Devil (although, probably no sillier than Thnuderwolves...), but some sort of horrific alien jungle gribbly used as an attack dog for Genestealers is a great idea

Hah, I knew I wasn't the only one to think 'GEQ with Rending and ambush/stealth rules screams 'Catachan' to me!'

Nice work thus far, love the conversions, though I'd use a wheeled APC and/or something styled after M113 as a Goliath looks more fitting than the obviously WW2 German half-track.

For Acolytes, I'd suggest using new Blood Bowl human team players - their gear looks suitably similar to flak armor, they have clawed gauntlets working as Rending Claws well, and they're larger than normal humans, explaining the Str difference. They also come with 32mm bases, and are pretty affordable atm. Basically, all they need are Catachan heads, and camo painting. Alternatively, converting some AoS Bloodreavers might be an option, they have nice, feral half-ogryn look.

As for the Patriarch,.. Just imagine this girl is also a psyker, and replace the weapons with sentinel/killa kan saws...

Thanks, I think I will be going for body paint, will add a fair bit more detail, decals will be on once I get some more decal solvent.

I.have some dire wolves lying about that I thought would make great genestealers but this is neat idea too!

I think that's a great idea for Ogryns, something I have been toying with. I think I will leave a Patriarch our for now, mayne something like that in the future!

Thanks, I am aweful for that!

It was a 1:35 tanks hanomag, I think you can get them off ebay for.£10 or so. I only used it as it was going spare. It will probably be replaced with an actual goliath soon so I can play at warhammer world (fairly local).

Update wise, made some progress on the command but got distracted with some fish tank plants! Very simple area terrain made up, I plan to build a board to complete these dudes.

Thanks for all the feedback, sorry if.this is garbled as I put it together on my phone ahah!

Full squad of ten chappos done now, have about 13 others nearly finished too.

Tried the setback conversion to add a little more interest to the force. After ending up in a&e after a hobby knife incedent performing said conversion I have now purchased a hobby saw. Safe to say we have both been set back!

Other than that I experimented with some carapace veterans for an allied detachment with valkyrie.

More to come!
