I'm putting together the Talons of the emperor kit, and while I like the gold, I'm just not feeling the red. My other current project is largely reds, so in a way I guess I'm just looking to do something different with this one.

I was thinking gold with Black, highlighted with cool greys to contrast the warmth of the golden armour. This might also make them a little more dark and imposing, the kind of unit a space marine would be scared of (at least a bit threatened by). Do any of you know if this fits in fluff-wise or am I a raving heretic?

I think the red bits were changed to black after the Emperor got battered by Horus, so it would fit perfectly well.

There is a picture in Inferno of one Custodian in black armor. Part of some special group guarding some special thing.

Cheers guys! Ah I'm kinda gutted now, black sounds badass but I've painted all the gold parts now...maybe I'll have to do some digging on the black armour and make those too.

So here's where I'm at so far, all colours are in need of highlighting, and once I've highlighted the black with The Fang and Russ Grey I'll knock it back a few tones with a Nuln oil wash.

Eyes...Bright Blue or Bright Red?

Blue will show up much better, personally.
