Bought from a reputable seller on Ebay a month or so ago, just assembling now and noticed some seeming poor quality on the cast. What do you guys think? Should I open a claim? Also bought three assassins that look the same.

Well, first off, reputable just means...people buy from them (probably openly knowing what they sell, etc.).

Did it come on the awkward/awful finecast looking sprue w/ a box, or just as pictured? My guess is re-cast personally, but Finecast is so bad...I couldn't be sure.

I've only ever seen that guy in metal, so I don't know anything about the Finecast version.

Also, if the price was good and he had numerous ones of the same mini - probably a recast. (oh...and if they're in Portugal, Russia, and China...probably recast)

This guy was American, had two copies. Out of box, just like the assassins I bought. The model feels brittle, but a bit different than Finecast that GW sells.

Did you already clean it? It has no bubbles and not a lot of over due resin. So my guess is it may be a repo.

Good news it is beautiful enjoy.

I did do some clean up on it, but I don't want to do any more work until I decide whether to open a claim or not.

It's a recast. Failcast, errr.. Finecrap... I can never type the name of that stuff that GW used! Anyways- that model was originally cast in metal by GW before they converted over to the soft resin stuff they tried to use for a while. That stuff was white, and very. very soft.

This model looks like it was cast with a harder resin, and I would say it looks like a pretty good recast too.

Just remember the forum rules about recasts.

I think you can open a claim.

Too few bubbles and assorted casting flaws to be legitimate finecast, probably a recast. Be glad that you accidentally got the superior product and not an endless hell of trying to turn a finecast model into something other than trash.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I'm not seeing specifically what is poor in the casting beyond that typical of finecast, particularly the earlier stuff produced. Frankly a lot of recast resin stuff is at least passable. Some indicators can be things like a second mould line, but a lot of the signs of recasting are not as 100% as people insist. Have a look at this guys bidding history, does he sell a lot of duplicates of unique valuable figures? Take care before accusing of recasting.

I've had terrible experience with Finecast. I once saw a Finecast of Dante in a GW store and called the manager over and asked him how he felt about charging full price for one single model when it was clearly a terrible cast with mold lines and flash all over the place.

One way to tell is to smell the resin. If it has a distinct odour, it is a recast. If it has no smell, it could be legit.

Just to update, the seller admitted that yes, it was a recast, and I accepted a 60% refund as well as getting to keep all the models, which I am happy with.

A lot of the time you can tell if it's a recast if you cut into the model and notice a gasoline-like smell.

I would say that it's extremely likely that this is a recast. It has the look of one.

The brittle resin, source, and most likely the price are all red flags. I have even seen recast stuff come in FW bags.
