This Is Where the Fish Lives

You're off to a good start.

My advice would be to paint the sand on the bases and then paint of the rims with black. Unpainted sand looks like unpainted sand and a nice solid black base rim gives it a clean look.

Agree that you're off to a good start. Things that stand out to me (as a non-pro painter)

-The gold is super heavy, thick. Consider another method.
-The white is also super heavy, thick. Consider simply priming the heads separately in white (gives far less chunk) and they need some definition by highlighting or washes.
-You can always put the basing material on the model before you prime, making it much easier to paint later.
-The basic marines need eyes of a contrasting colour so they stick out a bit.
-Personal opinion: don't paint the base rims black, paint them a complimenting colour to the basing material you choose to use/paint.

I like the colour scheme and the ideas, just needs a little cleaning up around the edges.

The white very thin, just didnt come out good in the picture, You do have a point though, as for the gold, I noticed it gobbed on kind of thick, I need to find a good eyecolor for the marines. The regular tac guys are the first real test of my speed painting technique. Prime, shade, dry brush, detail. The termies and tac sqaud are an afternoons work.

In a Trayzn pokeball

I don't really see the shade m8. And don't listen to Elbows, all bases must be black-rimmed. Anything else is HERESY!

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.
