This is my first go at painting apart from a brief go a few years back. Feedback is appreciated

The base looks great. Overall the miniature look decent.
However the eye don't look good at all, and it is such a important part that it lowers the overall impression on a close up photo.such as this.

Try and first paint the eye area black and then a smaller area in green inside the black leaving a slight outline around the eye.
This will give a impression of shadows around the eye which is inset on the helmet.
You could also add a dot of light green in a corner and it will give the impression of a lens reflection.

I like it! You could go over the whole thing with a wash and then highlight the raised areas and edges with a lighter shade of red.

Yea I agree with the eyes. I was trying to do the technique of painting a white line then putting a glaze over it. I was having heaps of trouble painting the line straight and smooth.

These are fantastic for a first attempt here's a pic of my friends first attempt at tau, if this is truly your first attempt you are naturally talented at painting and must keep at it I emplore you.

To the OP - well done. You've achieved a perfectly reasonable table-top finish on your mini. I'd be more than happy to play an army painted to that standard. Keep it up, and more tricks and detail will find their way in over time.

Looks sharp overall; post some pictures of the squad of you get them finished and you'll be able to see a slow progression of steadier hands and higher quality work from mini to mini; that's always my favorite part.

Looks like a great start. You've got a good grasp of the basic technical skills required for this hobby so keep pushing yourself with each mini (a highlight here, a different ink wash there) and before you know it you'll surprise yourself. Read up on some more advanced skills and try them out. If you don't like it, you can always start over!

Pretty good overall, I would advise picking up all the small individual details like the pipes and venting on the head and the few little bits on the backpack, The devil really is in the details.

the first thing i noticed is the eyes, id suggest using agrax or nuln around the eye, duncan said that in the orc flesh video, that the eyes should have shade around them if they arent very well painted
You didnt paint the pipes on the helmet and either you havent used shade (You have to use shade otherwise enjoy having undetailed figures) or you used a thick coat instead of 2 thin coats
