Here's the Horus I'm currently working at. Still needs some work and after I have varnished I'll go over the golds again(to preserve the shine). Still feel there's something missing though :-/ Apart from the head of course! Currently he's quite a headless fellow waiting for the replacement head to arrive from the Forge World.

In particular red cloak didn't turn out as well as I had hoped :-/ Too flat red I think. Any suggestions?

The cloak could use a wash and highlight to make it look a little more rich, but the eyes on the armor look phenomenal! The dark tones will look really nice if you base him on some lighter marble-esque material.

Were you the guy who lost the head? Did FW send a new one or did you have to buy another? Hes looking awesome man, I really like the eye heraldry they pop really well even the small ones and i know how hard they are to do. With the cloak try do a wet blend with a darker red like khorn red in the undersides of the flaps also dulling down the gold trim on the undersides makes a big difference.

Yeah that's me. I'm still waiting for the head THOUGH there's something from UPS waiting for me. Is it the head or the sons of horus&blood angel stuff I ordered as a "thank you" I don't know yet.

Those eyes are pain in the ass yeah.

Going to try to redo the cloak a bit. Clearly my airbrush-fu is not up to the task yet

Worked bit more on this. Still lacking head but that's now in possession. Need to wash it and then paint. Now in safe location.

But this is cursed model. Leaving for weekend trip and closing door neighbour came out. Cue door knocking box with horus into 1m+ freefall...

Surprisingly little damage but two claws did snap off. Did get them glued back somehow though.


What't next? Toughest model so far.

Paintwork looks okay. A bit sloppy under the 1000% zoomed photo when you click on it (I hate taking high-def pictures of my minis...ugh...it hurts). Definitely tabletop worthy though. It's hard to get excited about black models for me. Just not a lot to look at. I think you've done a pretty good job replicating the scheme though.

You going to mount him on the GIGANTIC stone base he came with or something more sane?

Would you do more FW primarchs?

Know what you mean about high res photos. One reason i hate posting photos.


Did consider painting him with soh green to avoid black model syndrome.

As for base propably go with stock one. Pose needs raised platform and i'm not much of base modeller.


As for other primarches at least blood angel one when it gets released. Propably lion as well. That covers my two favourite ones plus horus i picked due to model.

My entire opinion on my models has changed when I've snapped photos of them. I finish painting them and I think "heck yeah, that's awesome" and then I see the 4860x3800 or whatever picture on my computer...no thanks.

3' rule all day for me.
