Hey Everyone,

Here are the two spartans I have been working on as of late. Just got done with the oil wash. Thinking of doing another but with sepia this time as I did one with burnt umber already. I still need to do weathering pigments for the tracks and just plain dirt in general. Do you guys think a sponging of dryad bark would be a good idea too or too much?

Let me know what you think!

Looks great. What did you use to get the brown weathering where the panels meet?

I can't see anything to suggest, they both look really good. Love the weathered look that you did.

I used an oil wash of burnt umber. It was my first time ever doing one

Well it looks phenomenal especially if this was your first attempt at it! Well done.

here's a suggestion: stop making the rest of us look bad! they're awesome already!

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Looks great, the only thing I would suggest is after you apply the oil wash (and let it dry for 20-30min or so) go back over it with some white spirits and an old brush (or cotton bud) and wipe the edges of where you have placed the oil wash. That will ensure it blends rather than leaving a tide mark. Don't go to heavy, just enough to blend the transition between burnt umber and white base.

I also use this same technique to effectively stain in areas (usually around clumps of rust).
