First model in my planned Thousand Sons paint scheme.

I know it's nothing compared to most of what's on here, but I know the main mistakes I need to correct for my future army. (basecoat all before washing, maybe tone down the wash a tiny hair(?), possibly make the bolter the same color as the armor so when I inevitably move my hand wrong I don't have to spend a ton of time covering black, find/make an actually good space to paint so my hands can be more steady, etc.)

The main question I have is how the base color of the armor looks. I went with a metallic red rather than doing red over silver/gold because it takes me a while to paint up stuff (job, life, video games, hanging with friends, etc.) and I wanted something that would give an armored look with less effort since I'll be painting close to 100 Marines and Terminators.

Does it look armored? Does it look better than just using Mephiston Red? Too pink in the light?

I'll be honest - not in love with the colour or the finish. It does look a bit too sparkly and rather pink/orange. But, if you like it, carry on!

TBH as this was a test model I forgot the finish. Gloss then Varnish ought to fix it.

Actually like it, the black needs a highlight of some sort but the rests looking fine to me.

The sparkles appear to be grain in the picture when zooming in so guessing its more metallic but smooth in real life.

Not seeing a problem here, the MkIII armour is amazing and I think you've got it looking good enough there.

Found an airbrush made doing the red so much easier here (various silvers as a base, thats the red shaded, clear red over) took about ten minutes actual effort to do ten of them - the gold takes longer.

Thumbs up for doing the eyes as well (left mine black because I'm a coward)

Don't think the reds too pink, it may be a bit brighter than the deeper richer red in the artwork but it looks fine to me
