So the back story behind this model is that i want to get into commisioning. Not to the point of a full time job but enough that i can make a bit extra a month.
I figured the best way to see if im good enough is to first post up the pics to see what the best on dakka has to say. I figured if i want critisisms this is the best place to go.
The next step is to put the model up on ebay and see if i break even or make a profit if that all works happy days if not more practice

Soo without more rambling here are the pictures

Oh boy

Its.. ok

If you want brutal honesty.

Spoiler:
The details are not that clean. you are missing a bunch of studs and some of the studs are over or under silvered. like on the tabberd. the cape has a splotch that needs cleaning. basically no highlights cables not painted. the eyes are ok though the central belt one seems to have over paint

touching that up would make it way better.

though im one to talk still havent finished jack gak

Right so yes desubot that is exactly what i was looking for critisism

Unfortunatly the spot on the inside of the cape is due to a minor miscast as are some of the missing studs

The details i am open to advice on how to make them stand out more as atm all the gold is just retrubutor armour washed sapia

The metal again im unsure what you mean by under silvered is it that there us a little consistency between the studs ie some are painted to the armour and other just the top of it?
If so then again im open to advice i found out painting this i hate bloody studs :-D

The lack of highlights was a mistake i made as i was torn between edge highliting or zenithal highlighting but ended up going with edge highlighting only to fail miserably at it :-(

The eye on the belt again was a mistake on my behalf i tried and failed to wet blend it from khorne red to troll slayer orange and it didnt work but the damage was already

And i never want to paint eyes again in my life ever (advice is welcome though

But thanks for the reply i wont be doing much work on this one as i just want rid of it but all advice and critisisms will be put into the next model

Basicly the studs are not painted the same. like on the leg some look bigger and smaller.

a lot more studs on the gold parts.

cable going from the arm to the power clawinator.

yeah i hate eyes and studs.

Oh Also pre painting prep work is a big thing for commissioning.

the center of the cape looks really good but that tail edge near the mace seems to have a casting issue.

you should of scrapped sanded and filled any imperfection before painting.

i mean personally i cant stand accidentally missing a mould line. it drive me up a wall. i will often completely strip and re do it :/

It could just be me, or is that golden line on the cape switching sizes? Especially towards the middle it thins out a lot just to and in a big blob of golden paint.

One small detail, that really bothers me: The nose (or whatever that U-shape thingy is) of the Aquilla. It seems half washed, half un-washed.

Hope it's not to rude not to say "nice model" or something and just post critic, since I feel people just say that to have said something, actually not meaning it. Kinda overused a lot.

So, the question "am I good enough for commission painting" is hard to answer, because it depends on whether you can attract customers, how fast you paint, and how much your customers are willing to pay for your work. If it took you 5 hours to paint this, you're probably not going to be able to make any money. If you did this in 30 minutes however, you could find a market painting up large armies at around this quality.

I'd say first off, you need to work on your photography and modeling skills. The photo quality here is nowhere near good enough, though you can get around this by finding customers locally instead of online so that photos are less important. The modeling skills though are most likely a deal-breaker for most people. The mould line on the cape is totally unacceptable for professional work, and you should expect refund requests or refused payment if you try to deliver something like that.

I say this as someone who isn't very good at painting so take it for what you will.

As a miniature for the tabletop for your personal use, it's perfectly acceptable in my eyes, tbh you could even sell miniatures painted to this standard on ebay for a small profit or a bigger profit if you picked up the mini 2nd hand at lower cost.

Commission standard as said above will need more work but don't be discouraged if it's something you enjoy and wish to do.

Commission painting is more up to the customer, im not an amazing painter but im decent and had loads of time on my hands and the guys who paid me had no time and wanted even a basically painted army instead of nothing.
