So my plan was to base my army before gluing them. Before I knew it I had 2000 points of death guard, thousand sons, and word bearers that are glued primed and in some cases painted.
Is it too late to effectively base them? Would I have to gingerly peal the bases off or can I work with this?

It cuts out the sanding and painting the sand part of normal sand basing.
like the GW stuff isnt bad.
its expensive but it works.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Dry brushing might be the hard part.
and for the most part its not 100% needed.
or just be extra careful around feets.
For the crackle stuff, paint the bases the dark shade of dirt color you are using so that when it cracks it shows through. i hear gloss paint coloring the base first works better for the crackle stuff.

Myself, I'll sometimes base a figure, then paint the base. Next, I'll paint it again, but immediately dip it in fine craft sand. Then, I can drybrush the base, add more texture, etc. Last step is adding static grass. You can wash static grass, btw, if it's too "spring green". Here's a pic after the drybrush and additional texture, but before painting the texture:

If you want the whole lot to match choose one colour (I like the astrogranite debris for chaos) and do all the bases the same - brings the army together.. then top with a bit of scrubland grass and some skulls. Attached is Agrellen Earth with Agrax Earthshade wash and bone drybrush.

Some techniques work better post painting. I use snow flock for my ultras, and grass flock for my eldar. Looks decent, is easy, and can be done to finished minis. Which is good, as i started basing late in life.
I had the same issue, got, I don't even want to say how many points of minis I haven't based due to years of not basing anything, I've been taking some of them, slowly due to laziness, I won't lie, and putting glue down carefully and adding flock to the bases. It's not too late, but it's REALLY annoying unless you want to rip them off the bases.
I previously tried the textured paints, but I found it kind of annoying to use because of gluing the models down, I wanted to drybrush the base with white, I was using Astrogranite, it's harder to do that, so I ripped the minis off their bases and started over with new bases.
Also, S.e.r.a.p.h.i.m, those Lava bases look bloody fantastic, mad props to you man, I wouldn't have the patience to do that

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.
I found an issue with glueing models to bases after applying the textured paints - the models would lift off taking a chunk of the paint with them. Actually found it better to apply the texture paint after glueing down the models.. and thanks for the comment re lava bases.. the hair dryer got a workout lolz
