Hi all

I find when I'm painting large areas like tanks and walkers I always get brush marks and the paint just isn't smooth.

Is it a case where I just need to add more flow improver or water?

Thanks.

flow improver is the answer. i have a few friends who are new to 40k and theyve been using it on everything and the smoothness of their coats is amazing... makes me think i should do that lol

Actually the answer for a smooth coat is:

Thinner paint. Use a wide brush for large areas, don't overload the brush, you don't want pooling.

Expect to do at least 3, but more likely 4 layers.

Paint each layer with smooth, even movements in one direction. Don't worry if the first few layers aren't opaque, don't be tempted to overapply each layer.

Allow each layer to dry and paint the next layer at a 90 degree direction to the previous. Generally you shouldn't need more than 5-6 layers.

Good ol' fashioned tap water should be sufficient for your purposes but flow improver is nice. Generally you want to play around with the consistencies until you find one you are happy with. I've heard about the consistency of milk is what you should shoot for.
