So I am in love with the new Mortarion model. While I really like the new Death Guard green armour, I'm not a fan of the purple robes. So I was trying to think on different colours to use but I keep hitting walls:

Blue would look gross with green, orange or yellow would be too garish, brown or beige wouldn't contrast very well, sickly white/cream would mix with the pale wings and horns and wouldn't help make his face a point of focus, red and green just remind me of Christmas.

So I thought of maybe doing the robes a dark grey (except for the bottom which I'd make pale, like the box art) and make his face pale like a skull and give him orange glowing eyes and a copper respirator. I think the dark grey would contrast with the pale green armour, while the white face with coloured eyes and respirator would really draw focus. I'm not quite sure what to do with the loin cloth he has though. The official one has it painted red, but I feel that if I'm taking the colour from his main robes, leaving that red would draw too much attention.

My main issue with using grey though is that it might wash him out too much and leave him looking a little dull. But maybe I could stain it with blotches of blood and puss and such to make it look more interesting? Then again, he has a lot going on with chains and censors and trimming that maybe it wouldn't end up dull.

What do you guys think? This is a tough decision because he's such a lovely model and I really want to make him look ace.

Here are some guidelines for a good nurgle colour scheme.
The basic rules is that you should never use vibrant colours. Exposure to the elements makes colours pale. If your model is lacking colour you can add some vibrant colours on certain details, such as yellow puss or a red glowing plasma pistol.
Pale and bright colours are the way to go because they make all the dirt and rust visible.

Awesome thanks man. I'll go with the grey then I think and go with a pale loincloth

EDIT: Actually, doing his armour in a dirty white and his robes in the Death Guard green might look even better...

Alright, so I have quickly painted up possibly my greatest photoshop job of all time, to test out the two schemes I'm tossing between now. I cannot decide on these, perhaps you guys could help, or mention some other possibilities/changes.

The first one is much better.

Yep, I think I agree. Has a feel of his old Horus Heresy scheme but will be coherent with my green armoured army with the robes. And it seems to feel better to look at, probably because the green highlights his face much better. I'll start working on it tomorrow and post up the results in the year it's going to take me to paint him

I must admit im torn because i feel he should be in the original legion colours 1) but i really like the white robes on option 2. I would go with 1 though because of my puritan view haha

Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

Don't feel bad - both of those schemes are 146% better than the crap GW put on their promo model. You can't go wrong.

Thanks Elbows
I'm going with the white after looking at it with fresh eyes. It's more fluffy as you guys have said and I like it more now that I'm looking at it again
