These are are the first models I've painted for Age of Sigmar and was hoping for some help. I never seem to be able to get the smooth flat coat like in painting tutorials. My paint jobs, at least to me, look chalky and tend to get some texture to them as opposed to the flat paint in tutorial. Am I thinning to much? Not enough? I'm starting to get a little frustrated. About how I paint, I use citadel paints, thin with tap water.

Probably need to thin the paint a little bit more. “Two thin coats” of paint for solid coverage.

Don't thin with tap water. Tap water is full of minerals and other crap which gets added to your paints. You want distilled water. Not purified (again purified actually has stuff in it still).

How big are the brushes your using?

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Looking real nice for a first model! My advice would be to thin the paint a little more and after you have done all the basecoats like in your picture to give the whole model a dark brown wash which will really give it depth and definition! All the best to your hobby journey mate.
