I got back into the hobby a year ago and am slowly painting up a Primaris army (Crimson Fists). Everything I’ve painted up until now has been infantry and a HQ and I’ve kept it simple with the bases (texture paint (Astrogranite Debris), wash (Agrax Earthshade), drybrush (Tyrant Skull) having just finish my Redemptor Dreadnought I don’t know what to do with the base, I want it to tie in with the other bases but feel like it needs a little something more because of the bigger base, and as a centre piece model. Any suggestions welcome! I have attached a picture of the Dreadnought and a based Captain from my army to show what I want it to tie into. Cheers!

I would go with some bigger stones , mybe more concrete based to blend with the debris paint.

On my larger bases, I usually add some 'larger' rocks to the base before I add sand (for texture), pulling a random example off Google (spoilered for large image):
Spoiler:
Then fill in the rest of the base with your standard method. I add little tufts of static grass afterwards too but you've got more of a barren-rocky thing going on.

Other options would be other kinds of debris from leftover parts of other kits (i.e. dead space marine's helmet / shoulderpad). This can be tricky from the viewpoint of trying to make it look like it's sunk into the texture of the base (partly covered, not lying completely flat) rather than obviously super-glued on top. For me this means cutting / filing down part of the surface at an angle until you're happy with it (dangerous method for fingers though).

GW also do basing kits of their own, which can provide some inspiration:

Cheers guys, will give the stones a try, wondered about some bits from other kits but getting them to look right on the ground was something I was unsure about

Arashen, Segmentum Pacificus

Common bark and wood chips also work well!

I saw with eyes then young, and this is my testament.
