So... I'm not really into painting and i've only painted a handful of minis over the last couple years.

I want to fully paint my knight army though. This is my first attempt but I feel its somewhat lacking

Do you have any tips for me to get better?

Looks great so far. Some edge highlights definitely make Knights pop. Looks like some additional heraldry or iconography wouldn't hurt, either. Knights are a great canvas for decals and freehand.

Here's mine--I did a mix of decals, freehand, and edge highlights. It's still a bit of a work in progress.

Knights have huge surface areas. Highlights are a must. Also a good basing job is something that will make it stand out

But really your paint job isn’t bad.

Looks good in my opionion. Only suggestion would be to prime you knights with a metallic primer. There's so many metallic surfaces that not only does that save you a LOT of time, it will also make your metallics look that much smoother and cleaner.

I made the metal look gritty intentionally. I dont like the clean factory look

Looks good so far, but could certainly use a few touches to make it pop.

I used this stuff called "streaking grime" that helps ad some wear and tear to it. I like it put in on the armor plates where the trim meets the plate. I don't really go for that 'rusted and old' look - just more of a look that it has been on the field for a while. It's oil based, so you basically slop it on and wipe it off or streak it with mineral spirits. Really easy to use. I found a cool perk to it too - if you use it without shaking it, it seperates. The thin liquidey stuff on the top will have a different look if applied by itself. It dries lighter to look like dirt. When mixed, it's more transparent and looks like rust stains or grime.

Also, since I'm using the martian ironearth for the base, I have some pigment of the same color that i use on the feet/lower legs. I brush a thin layer of satan finish on it and let it dry for a minute until it's sticky but not wet, then gingerly brush on the pigment. I've found that if I don't do it this way, a good chunk of the pigment will come off when you put a final coat of finish/anti-shine on it. You can do that with any base color. It really make it tell a story of how the knight kicks up a lot of dust as it moves or has been slopping around in thick mud.

I'd post pics, but im at work and even if i wasn't - my phone's camera is horrible.
