Hi all,
I've just gotten back into Warhammer after a long hiatus. How things have changed and how much the models have evolved. Very glad to be back (but missing the Old World).

I have pulled my traitor guardsmen out to start work on them. I also dug around, did some tidying and found a heap of Space Crusade models! Rock on 80s!

I'm painting the Chaos Androids to be some sort of... something representative unit in the army. I also have several of the Chaos Dreadnoughts stripped and ready to paint. I did a quick search online for colour ideas and found the attached conversions. I just LOVE that these classic models have been given a new lease of life and damn they look so good!

BUT... being out of the hobby so long, I have no idea where the weapon conversions came from! I know there's a lascannon, autocannon, melta, plasma, missile pods... but where are they from??

Help please!

For the record - my intentions are to make the conversions 'reversable', as the original models allowed weapon swap-outs.

Thank you!

For the Dark Angel Dreadnoughts the missile launchers look like they're from the Land Speeder Typhoon kit, the plasma cannons are blocky so they look like Storm Raven parts, the autocannons could be from the Aegis kit, the assault cannon looks like it is from the Venerable dreadnought kit minus the ammo box, and the heavy bolters look like FW Contemptor parts. Not sure where the multi-melta is from but could be the Landspeeder kit too.

For the Ultramarines the missile launcher is from the Landspeeder Storm kit. The autocannons could be two Guard ones glued together (I suppose the Dark Angel ones could be too). The lascannon looks like it could be from Landraider kit.

If you want to switch out weapons you might want to consider magnets.

Great update to a classic model.

For the androids maybe 1000 sons/rubric marines?

I built plasticard ‘hangers’ to swap my weapon conversions in and out like the originals:

The plasma cannons above could be from the Land Speeder Vengeance/Darkshroud kit.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

I chopped up the legs on mine and reposed them for a bit of variety. I mounted Grav cannons above each weapon mount and am planning to magnetize some extra weapon systems so I can swap them out. Magnets are the way forward for these guys!

Thanks for the weapons identification. I've ordered a bunch of parts for playing around.

I'd love to build the plastic Ard hangers, but that may be beyond my abilities, so magnets are probably the best option. Where would I find them? The ones on ebay and the like are coated, so I'm not certain paint would stick.

I love those converted ones too! The tribal markings are awesome, very cool detailing! I'm just not sure if I can bring myself to permanently alter classic models though.. . Maybe one or two...

I did a trial paint of my most beat up dreadnought last night. Will add some painted symbols or something, but it turned out alright I think.

Nice work on your Deadpool-naught. For the magnets I don't think that the coating should be an issue. One magnet would be recessed in the weapon, the other would be recessed in the attachment point.

Just make sure you have the polarity right before you glue them in.

Well the first of 4 dreadnoughts is finally complete! It took a long time for parts, but then it was relatively easy. I finally decided to convert them, because they look so much better and these are not mint examples anyway. I did keep a full set of nice clean originals in case I ever want to use them. They look great with the rest of my Blood Pact army. Didn't take much to update them to tie in.
