Ever since I first saw the Stonecast Eternals, I was mesmerized and thought they were absolutely awesome. And I also silently cursed the fate that made me play Necrons in 40k and not something that lent themselves more easily to stone statues in AoS.

But then again, Necron models wouldn't be the worst of armies to apply this concept to. They certainly have something eternal and ancient to them. Although why living metal would turn into stone takes some imagination. But its not impossible (That extremely rare mineral deep under the crust on this particular planet - over millions of years it slowly interacted with the living metal, slowly turning it into stone etc. etc.)

Luckily the guy published the steps to produce them, and working with decent Vallejo equivalents I came up with what you can see below. Zooming in there are definitely some sloppy lines here and there, and the moss looks messy, but this is only the first, practice model, things will get better.

He looks great, especially for your first attempt at a new style. Really like the look of statue-esk necrons actually, quite a creepy prospect, going through the ancient ruins of their tomb world with these guys all over the place coming to life.

I’m keen to see more.

This is fantastic. Of all the 40k races, I can't think of one better suited to the stone look. Keep it up!

Very nice, and I like how bright the weapon looks.

Nice tester! If you get any better this will have to be one of the best Necron armies out there. Have you looked at the moss-covered army that I occasionally see popping up on pinterest? The large models can look great covered in vines etc.

Thanks for sharing - I look forward to seeing where this one goes

Baron, don't forget to talk about the SEALs and Marines you habitually beat up on 2 and 3 at a time, as you PM'd me about.

Yes I've seen it many times. I especially dig the monolith that's rising up from the swamp. With all that grass and swampiness, that style feels like a commitment on a whole different level, each model looking almost like a diorama.

But I agree, for larger models something should extra could definitely fit in. The Deceiver would look amazing as a statue in this style, with vines clinging up around him.
