Just finished up this guy, pretty cool and fun to paint! First time trying out this custom base I made, I like how it turned out but I think it needs a little fine tuning. Next bases should turn out better I hope.

P.S. Not sure why the photos uploaded sideway :/

He looks great, love the purple and the highlights are nice a sharp.
The base looks pretty sweet too, what’s the process behind it?

Photos generally come out sideways if you take them on a phone for whatever reason. If you open them in photoshop or whatever other program you have similar, I find it fixes it if you flip them sideways then back again and resave them.

Thanks Tiberius501! I really enjoyed the purple as well, what a great color. I'd like to see it in more models. Thank you so much for the info about the photos as well. I was pondering why they come out sideways, maybe the forum automatically goes for widescreen photo which most cameras are except smart phones.. but I'll go back and try the rotate them before uploading them.

With the base, I got the idea by looking at the Blackstone Fortress tiles that come with the game. You can see with some of them a diamond shape in the tiles/ walkways, they are different colors and such but I wanted to try to keep to a similar look with the models to the game board.

As for the base process. I used a piece of rough sketch book paper and cut out 4 circles the size of the base. I glued down the first circle to the base, then I took the other 3 circles, put them on top of each other and cut them to into 3 pieces. After retrimming the edges, I glued the remaining pieces down to the base but with the pieces separated from each other to give it a 3D effect as if there was a small chasm between the surfaces. Then I used an box cutter blade to score the top of the base in a diamond design. A straightedge would've helped here.

From there its was all painting, I did a blue energy but I'd like to try other colors as well. For the painting steps, First it was primed black. Then Kantor Blue over the scored areas and the recesses. Next Caledor Sky, then eventually Teclis Blue. Shade with Drakenhof Nightshade then I highlighted edges with Teclis blue and some points with a 1:1 mixture of Teclis Blue and White Scar.
