So I was building my new Grots and then my clippers snapped as I was cutting out a piece from the sprue. I was wandering if this has happened to anyone else and if I should bring it to GW’s attention. I’m curious to see if mine is just a faulty one or if it’s common. Mainly it was a little dangerous because the bit the broke off flung past my face and nearly hit my friend in the eye.

Thanks

Well you definitely should bring it to GW's attention. I'm pretty sure you'll get a new pair since that's an obvious defect. Steel shouldn't break like that unless there's a crack or defect in the material.

that is some major defect in the tool.
not even if you clipped steel would it break of like that, it would just severly dent the snipper part.

take it to your nearest GW shop and tell your tale.

Haha yeah I was not expecting steel to snap like that, I thought it was physically impossible. Either it's made of some pretty shoddy material or I had a bad one. Was certainly a surprise. Usually Citadel stuff is pretty good quality, never had issues before so I'm hoping it was just that one.

The tools are made in China, says so on the box.

However, that shouldn't happen and I have not yet seen anything like it. I've been using mine since this version came out and had zero issues with it. In your case, I'd send an e-mail to the customer service. You'll probably get a new one and if there is a safety issue that didn't come up during testing for the CE badge (in which case the product couldn't be sold in lots of countries, so obviously it passed the regulatory process), they should know.

Definitely a defect. If you were abusing the tools it would be the tips that would break off, not the central hunk.

also if abusing them (say cutting piano wire) the blade would be damaged, which it isn't, so yet take them back.

this being GW I suspect you will get a replacement without much fuss

That's why I avoiding gw crap, and using clippers taken from my wife's old manicure set - cheaper, stronger, better
Take it to the store, take money back, and go to nearest drugstore (or something like that) and buy nail clippers.

It broke at its weakest possible spot.

I dont know if its cheapo sintered metal or not but handling one of those, it didnt seem like it. i think you just got an unlucky defect. 99% sure GW will be likely to replace it if you just shoot them an email.

Wow. Dude, see if you can just get a refund. Army Painter makes better snips by far, and for like 5 bucks at Harbor Freight you can get some flush-cuts that will last years snipping plastic.

I've seen this happen with GW clippers before, take them into a store and they will swap them for you

it looks to me as if there was some twist/torque while cutting,
hence the break at the screw...

really odd though, as I torque the hell outa my cutters with no adverse effect...

There's not really anything 'secret' about it. GW's hobby tools have always been made in China.

They've also generally been pretty good quality, though, if overpriced. This is a defect, which can happen with any tool you buy.
