I had a really cool idea to make a C'tan out of Nagash. I really liked the idea, but didn't want to just make a C'tan, it didn't do the Nagash model justice, so I thought I could make him part of a Tesseract Vault. Not being a huge fan of the Vault model, I had the idea to create the Nagash-C'tan as a "Coalescent C'tan," ie one that has regained much of his former power. I just needed to make the C'tan big enough to count as a Vault. Not easy, but I've been working on it for a while and I think I got it. So this thread will be dedicated to my process.
I do want to note that I did not document the step by step of the C'tan build. And I did a good amount of work on the "energy field" surrounding him already. The next post will have a large number of images, but after that I will update as I go.

So here is the completed C'tan. I'm really happy with how it came out. It took a while to green stuff his abs as I didn't like the desiccated look of the Nagash model. His head is a leftover new style spyder head, his "mask" is half of the back end of a particle beamer. Both of these were glued to a wooden ball and then the hood was added. His left hand is an old school spyder claw. Automatically Appended Next Post: Sorry about the sideways angle, I didn't realize it would do that.

Here is some work done on the energy field. I bought a used Obelisk, got a diamond-in-the-rough find of one for pretty cheap, so I decided to use the very bottom of it for the bottom of the energy field. In part, this will help shut up people who don't like that it's not the actual model becuase I can accurately say that this thing is flying exactly as high as the actual Vault would be.
The field itself is a giant Easter egg. My son has several and this one broke, so I got to claim it as my own. after drilling holes along the lines of the breaks in the field, I carefully cut the sections out and used a dremel to smooth them out. Automatically Appended Next Post: I don't know why they are all going in sideways, my computer shows them the correct direction. I guess I will have to take horizontal photos from now on.

I'm really enjoying the scale you're going for. No one will doubt this was once a god.

Instead of going for "energy field" paint on the egg, you could do a starscape and Galaxy ... double down on the reality warping power aspect.
Either way, looking great so far!

It's been a little while since I posted so here is my update so far.
The balls are intended for 2 things: firstly to be "lighting balls" to count as the Tesla Spheres and secondly to be the corners of the model, so that it has a footprint as close to the actual as it can. I had a friend measure his to be 9.5" from corner to corner. I made a cardboard guide that is 9.5" on the inside so I can achieve the right footprint. The image from above has my guide sitting on top of it.
The cork will be painted like part of the ground that has been pulled into the air by the power of the C'Tan.

I can't wait to see this with the first layers of paint on it! Interesting take!
How about making a paste of PVA and fine gravel to smooth out the cork layers, giving them less of an artificial look?

Not a bad idea. I know where is more work on them to make them less like cork, that is one potential solution. I also plan on taking a dremel to them to break up the flat a little bit more.

Cool, I'd be interested in hearing how that works out. I fear the kork will be too soft for the tool to get a good hold of it.

I have a wire brush tool with it that may work. I'll have to try it.

So I've started to add bits to the ground like the large chunks are breaking apart. This part is a bitch and is taking forever. It will look good when done, but damn, it's taking a while.

So I've done some more work on it. I broke up the cork a bit to make it less neat, I think that's all I'm willing to do for the cork. I may end up filling some parts with hot glue later on. I added some Necron debris to make it look like he pulled the earth up around him in the middle of a fight.
I also added some more wire lighting, some coming up from the bottom and a few others to connect the larger chunks of earth. I am actually really glad I did that as this whole rig was pretty wobbly. I don't think I will add a wire on the fourth side. That may be where I have the C'Tan "looking out of." It's coming together slowly, but it's coming together.
