I opened a new can of quickshade soft tone and it is really dark, like a chocolate brown color. Has anyone everyone had something similar? It is way darker than what I was normally expecting.

In the image, the hound on the left was dipped with soft tone, they were painted identical before.

Yes I have had it happen. I believe what it is doing is that the "thinner" is evaporating causing the pigment to be more concentrated.

Where was the tin kept and did you give the contents a stir before using it?

Heat cycles can spoil a lot of things

Yes, it is spoiled. Throw it out and get your self a new one.

Just kidding.

It may be manufacturing tolerance difference, storage, etc. So many things that can affect the output quality.

Mix in water or solvents to thin it back down, test it on a inconspicuous area of the model and compare it to your other model before applying.

Fun fact! did you know that the little square of fabric you get with expensive clothing made with special fabrics? It's supposed to be used for testing out different detergents and stuff before using them on the actual article of clothing! You learn something new everyday! And knowledge it power!

Solvents??? when you say solvents i think of things you strip paint off with. Are you referring to mediums or some thing ?

Solvents are generally any form of solutes that keeps the substance in a liquid form. Thinners, mediums, water - all types of solvents. Thinner, especially building paint thinners, are probably what you're refering to. These types of solvents are capable to breaking down dried acrylic back to liquid form, where as medium or water cannot. Mediums are also a type of solvents but their primary function is to serve as a carrier of pigments.

So all mediums, thinners, etc are solvents, but not all solvents are mediums/thinners/etc.

Note that house paint thinners are generally strong enough to corrode the plastic so dont go try stripping your models in them.

When you live in the southern US, every paint is a gamble.

Am I getting Citadel Dry paint, or a rock in a pot?

Is this Coelia Greenshade going to work, or will it look like I drenched my model in willy-snot and wiped it down?

You never know.

Thanks everyone for the response. The can was brand new from Amazon, but I just won't buy form that seller anymore.
