On the GW website with the pictures that people submit as examples of their finished models, there is this absolute bada$$ looking Chimera shown under, well the Chimera. I am curious as I I'm pretty sure that that isn't your bog standard assembly, so I was wondering if they used some 3rd party conversion kit or other parts in general, any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

P.S. Not really interested in the dozer blade in case that one was different, completely ignored it on my Chimera so absolve me of my ignorance bruvas Emprah bless.
P.P.S. EDIT* also not particularly interested in the blankets and other accessories shown as I'm fairly sure on where and how to get/make those.

For the most part, looks like standard Chimera kit parts for the body.

it looks like they have mounted the normal turret part further back, normally it sits over the front hatch area, and filled in gaps with plasticard or something.

Dozer comes from the AM Tank accessory sprue, as do the track guards and possibly some of the decorations.

I dont remember exactly what the chimera kit is like, because it has been over a decade since the last time i assembled one of these. But seeing as they work of the same chassis as he artillery tanks (basilisk etc) I think they just moved back the chimera's roof to expose the frontal roof that is used for the artillery tank variants. That roll below the multilaser barrel looks stategically placed to cover the part where they had to bridge the gap that would result from moving the roof that far back.

notably, this is the old chimera kit. So it might have worked there, while it might not be possible with the modern set.

EDIT: okay just had a look at the sprues online. It should work just as I said.

I believe this is the tutorial you're looking for:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/347732-jams-set-back-chimera-tutorial/

One of my friends has converted all of his chimeras in this manner, and, if you're willing to take the time, they really produce a nice effect.

Companies like Blood and Skull Industries on eBay also sell that type of conversion.

Google it and I'm sure some finished images will pop up.

Looks like they cut off the infantry compartment from the top plate and glue it in the centre of the vehicle, bought a Leman russ cupola, hatch and mud guards then put it above the driver's position buy Leman russ mud guards and put them on(should be able to get them cheap from a parts seller on Ebay)

Personally I'd do away with the T34 style driver's hatch as it is redundant and looks silly, and even up that bizarrely shaped front plate. Once seen it cannot be unseen

Automatically Appended Next Post:
If you put the mudguards on it you can then use the tracks that would otherwise be covered to reinforce the frontal armour, everything but the stowage and, smoke launchers and leman russ parts as listed above are standard in the box
