So, one of my local stores has a really old and mismatched terrain collection, and during a recent tourney I noticed it was a bit of a serious issue. Well, in our apartment basement I just so happen to have half a bucket of dentalstone (A plaster roughly as strong as concrete but significantly lighter) and several molds from this dude http://www.hirstarts.com/

Well it's been a while since i've had a big terrain project, just some stock standard 40K stuff. So let's deal with 2 things at once!

My plan is to make enough for perhaps, 4 tables. Two with the fieldstone molds, making what I hope to look like ruined castles or country buildings for Age of Sigmar, Fantasy, Malifaux or Warmachine tabletop wargames, with their rules and line of sight requirements in mind.

The 40K tables will be using the pipe molds and some sheets of thick foamcore and plasticard to make a ruined facotry of oil refinery type feel. And it likewise will work perfectly find for Warmachine or other steampunk games.

Everything will be based on MDF sheets to give them some extra stability and ease of portability.

Through the week I've been casting quite a bit. Building up enough pieces to get started and one piece I will post up tonight, along with anything else people would like to see.

Any thoughts, suggestions or questions are welcome.

So, update number one. The first piece for the fantasy tables. Fairly simple, a barricade type piece for units to get cover but still be visible to the enemy. So, update. Got the first piece painted and based. Will be using the same entry to keep the whole page a bit neater.

More terrain work. This time a larger piece that units should be able to hide behind out of LOS. Built up a little barricade of crates and random junk a small group may gather up to try and make things more defensible, give the piece a bit more personality. Ork Ironjaw for scale.

This time the first of the oil manufacturing terrain for 40K/steampunk games. A pretty simple piece. Meant to act like a barricade with a larger wall section to provide line of sight blocking from one direction.

Also, for the life of me I can't get these damn pictures to post right way up. No matter how many times I edit and repost to get them correct. Bugger it.

Aye, I think my molds may be about 10 or so years old at this point. Still going strong, same for the Dentalstone I used. The dude makes good products to say the least. His tutorials are sweet too.

Yet another ruin piece. This one trying to look like some small cottage that has been destroyed or let fall into disrepair, with a few of the previous owners possessions scattered around. Going to keep using skellies to give scale reference. You should be able to hide a decent sized unit inside this piece, or an artillery piece that doesn't need LOS.

This may be my favourite one so far, the feel of this little abandoned house just makes me happy, something a rolling battle may pass through as they fight.

This time I put together some barricade or wall style pieces. Meant to allow smaller units to take cover while not being large pieces. Hopefully when placed on the table they'll look like remnants of a small village, the walls that separated the various houses.

This one is a bit of a cheat. Not hirstarts but still something i'm working on for the same store. 2 of the 3 pieces are done, owned by the store and given to me to construct and paint up.
