Hi Guys,

Well I thought I would get the ball rolling on a blog to help keep me motivated throughout my builds that I am currently working on and as a way to chart progress.

I have been a wargamer for well over 20 years at this point but have never really dabbled with terrain, either playing at stores for friends houses that have it all either built or store bought and I decided it was time to make my own.

I had a mammoth painting session last weekend and completed every single battletech mech I own as well as a few basic terrain pieces and dropped these in my cabinet (See pics 1 - 3).

What I decided was though that this looked a little plain and I wanted to build something to really make this small display pop out (I generally only get to play battletech once a month) and didn't want such lovely figures sitting in a case not doing anything, so I resolved to build a small display board for the models and take a lance or two out at a time when I am playing with them.

This presented a few challenges as you can see its a glass cabinet they live in so I didn't want the board itself to be too heavy so a wood battoned structure was out of the question. Thus I took a small piece of insulating foam and stuck ePVC sheeting around the side to create a nice even surface and got to work applying filler and sand and creating some fixed terrain features.

I will post further updates as I go as with the amount of PVA and filler on this it is taking quite a while to dry!

Please let me know your thoughts and if you have any advice or tips for a build like this.

So another day and another bit of progress as things are really now starting to come together. I have got all the sand and ground sealed and painted and have begun painting the rocky areas. I have also picked up a 3d printed comms tower to give the idea that this area is at the base of the some foothills on an agri planet that either my guys are defending or have just landed in the mountains and are moving through.

As this board is taking its time with drying and what not I started putting together some stuff for 40k.

My idea is to have a full set of terrain based on a nuclear wasteland, probably because I have been replaying Fallout 4 lately but instead of the standard mechanicum and GW buildings I wanted the look that this was a small town / outpost that was completely blasted to all hell either by orbital bombardment or a titan of some description. I've put together a few ruins and a smashed up truck as a bit of scatter terrain and am working on some oil silos to provide some good LoS cover. The idea is to create a unified 4x4 boards worth of terrain or a really dense Kill Team board for games at home.
