Hey friends, starting up an Ulthwé force and was wandering if the black was too flat. I’ve tried using up to Russ Grey on it as the highlight.

Reason why it looks flat is because you didn't highlight it enough and skipped on many edges. The color you used for brightest highlights is something you should put around all the edges, while picking sharpest edges with that mixed 50/50 with white or something like that.

That said, this WG does look pretty nice and varied and tabletop ready.

A light dry brush may help but then you'd have to layer again which shouldn't be too difficult.

Thanks for the replies and I see what you mean. On a bit of thought I decided to try out putting some gloss on the black, wanted to get a more alien vibe. What do you reckon?

I like the black/bone a lot but think the green cable is really distracting. It’s just one colour too many in my opinion.

I have to agree with Joyous. I find most striking paint schemes are predominantly two colours with a third "bonus" colour. This doesn't include muted/neutral or metallics most of the time.

I feel like you need to either embrace the green, or embrace the red. Having both starts to muddle it. Being Ulthwe I don't see a need for green, but it's your army. I do think it's one too many colours.
