Hi guys, just painting my Dark Imperium kit. After a short break (30 years) I have started playing again and got my daughter into the game. Any advice or comments gratefully received. First attempts here, never painted before.....well not since GCSE art.

I like the skin transitions on your poxwalkers.

Set up a desk lamp or something on either side and a little ahead of the minis (far enough to be out of the shot) and then disable your flash. You'll get much better pictures.

Also, that's pretty darn good for a beginning painter.

Great job. Im like you, im just back from a 25 or so year break from 40k and got the Dark Imperium box 2 weeks ago. Should be in a position to post my Death Guard completed tonight.

dont know about you but really enjoyed painting 40k stuff again after so long(but I realise you said you hadnt painted them before your break either so you are even newer to the painting part than me)

Thanks. Ironically I have thousands of pounds worth of camera equipment and a light box in the house but these were some quick snaps I took in a room with terrible light and one led spotlight. Great photo advice though.

Thanks, for the comment.

Thanks, they were the first thing I did, I started with grey primer and did a wash with Army painter skin tone to see the effect. Then did dry brushing of two green shades and then the gross bits and another flesh tone wash.

I got the box 18 months ago but after some house alterations I finally have a space that I am comfortable in to paint them (apparently taking over my wife’s office wasn’t an option). Now nicely perched on a breakfast bar with a log burner at my back and space to sit the iPad in front

In My Lab

The lighting makes it hard to see them properly, but from what I can see, they look great!

Good luck getting back into the swing of things, and good luck getting your daughter interested too!

Clocks for the clockmaker! Cogs for the cog throne!

Looks great for tabletop standard really. Looks like there’s some dust or grit or chunks of something in your paint though.

Not a bad start at all. Welcome to the wonderful world of mini painting.
