Man, am I glad I zoomed in on the pics. What looked airbrushed (with stencils, no less) at a distance is obviously painted (at least, largely) by hand, upon closer inspection. It takes a honed sense about light and shape to be able to do monochrome work, like that, that 'reads' right. I'm suitably impressed and it's obvious that I'm not alone, in that. Great work!

Thanks for linking the video. Seeing each stage of the layering build up to form the final image is quite instructive, I think. It doesn't necessarily take dozens of layers or extensive airbrushing to achieve a good look - just the right placement.

The aquila on the bronze trim piece is so central and visible that it detracts a bit from the chaotic nature of the piece. Plus the excellent freehand makes it look kind of naff by comparison
