Hello all

I'm a neophyte at all this, but i find painting is a nice day to wind down after my stressful work. So that being said here is my first attempt at an army. There are two different paint styles green and white, as i was experimenting. I decided to go with the green in the end and i got too lazy to change the other three white ones.

What do you all think? What can I do better, or what should i do?

The idea here is to create the look of old, dry, and rotted blood. Hence the black to red. I'm not sure i got that across though.

I am aware the bases are not complete as I don't know what to do with them. I'll figure it out eventually.

All the photos are sideways. But apart from that its a pretty darn good effort for a first timer! Much better than what I ever did lol.

I personally prefer the paler white colour. makes them more fleshy morbid in my opinion. The green also works and makes them seem a bit more dirty and gritty so its a personal preference. A winter base with the greener models would cool cool IMO.

Remmeber to do the bases. Some really easy tutorials.
Mostly some sort of fine gravel/sand/ballast sand etc. a generous helping of bas epaint a shade and a coat or two of drybrush should do the trick.

If you are feeling adventurous and moneys no issue there are plenty great basing products and tutorials available.
For these I could see an "autumn" theme base working well with the cool pale pallete potentially.

Minor point: The showcase forum is meant for finished projects being showcased. Might be worth asking a mod moving this thread to the P&M blog section sot hat you can get proper feedback and also ramble away

i dont know what it is about bases but they freak me out. mainly because its so open ended and you have to make it up on the spot. with a figure you can just follow the contours. ill repost photos with the bases done. i've also asked a mod to move thisd post to the appropriate sections. Thanks for the advice.

I wouldint over think it. Its hard to go wrong and a simple neutral coloured sand, prime and 2 colour highlight cant go wrong. Especially if you're batching a bunch of rank and file dudes. Might be worth looking at some quick and dirty tutorials for ideas. start with something straight forward. If you don't put too much stock in it then I wouldn't worry too much.

I think bases are the most fun aspect personally, as they can really help bring the miniature to life.
You can really tell a story and personalise the miniature. Add some cool scatter skulls etc.

Many people will disagree and they see the base as an afterthought and not really important. Which I can totally understand.
However a lot of high quality painters I've watched/listened to say the bases are the frame for you painting (minature)

You should be able to buy packs of bases cheap on ebay btw. I got like 30 bases for £2 just the other day. Needed for recycled used models,

Might be worth grabbing a bunch and going nuts with experiments practicing different techniques. Will certainly be beneficial in general painting experience as well I think. Just don't use nice expensive brushes!

Have fun. Looking forward to seeing some results.
