A mindshackle scarab seems to have compelled me to start a necron army. Through a series of good second-hand deals, I've managed to accumulate about 2k worth of robo aliens, mostly warriors. Now I just need a shard of the Deceiver to serve as the lynchpin of my infiltrating silver tide antics. In the short-term, the part of the Deceiver is going to be played by my Yncarne, but that's not a long-term thing. I kind of like the GW model, but it's expensive, showing its age a little, and (if I'm not mistaken) finecast. So, any thoughts on proxy or conversion materials for a reasonable stand-in?
I imagine a cheap wire or paperclip frame and some greenstuff could make for some cool ribbons, but the humanoid body looks like it's awkwardly larger than most other 40k models. Sort of Yncarne/Avatar/Primarch-sized. Just how big of a size difference from the GW model do you think I can reasonably get away with? I'm not trying to model for advantage or anything, but would it be unreasonable to use... say... an eldar body as a base? Or maybe go up in size to some kind of cheap kids' toy? Or should I go for something less humanoid in shape all together?
Or is the GW model actually an amazing buy that I should definitely sink some money into?
