I was looking at the Imperial fist supplement and it seems that the imperial fist are more "orange" than yellow in this book. When I look at the HH imperial fist, they are more yellow. Even when you look at artwork of IF, they usually really yellow, with hint of orange.
Anybody has notice that change in color? Or is it that the orange look is really what IF should be?
I ask that because I tried to paint some IF and most of the yellow, even flash gitz yellow seems to have a little orange in it. The only way I was able to have some kind of real yellow was with phalanx yellow.
That makes the model be really light yellow. I like them like that and I know that I should do what I like, but was just wondering if anybody else has paint IF with phalanx and if somebody else think the new look it too much orange?

well, painting style due change over time, perhaps they wanted a bit more darker tone this time.
i havent done any yet but i am going to try a lazy way with yellow ink followed by casandora yellow shade.
did a test model a year ago and it turned out a darker yellow tone so time to put it on an sm model.

I noticed if you undercoat with light brown or khaki the yellow seems to be more "yellow" than if painted over white.
Probably because sand or khaki color has less orange to it.

Oh man thats a rabbit hole iv been lost in before.
its not very consistant.
HH imperial fists are lemon yellow.
Current 40k marines are a golden brown/orangeish yellow.
one of the recipes iv seen that looks great and i think would be fairly easy to replicate was glazing over a pre shaded white using lamentors yellow.
im sure you could do something similar with the new contrast range. there is a giant chart of tests done over various primers too

I did some quick test with some old marines laying around and here is the result. It was really hard to take good picture, but I wanted you guys to show you three color I tried.
The 3 were primed white and basecoat phalanx yellow.
Then each one got a different layer:
first marine (left one in the picture, the more orange one) = Yriel yellow
second marine = Flash Gitz yellow
thirs one = phalanx yellow.

Here's a proper guide, also you must do what QAR says in my sig no palette or thinning needed.
All jokes aside I like the original golden yellow/ Yuriel yellow colour, they look dirty and used when shaded correctly.
The new colour looks like they are glowing orange.

This video should help you get an idea of the colours to use. https://youtu.be/b3KNuqwHzdo
In the past I've been tempted to try stating with averland sunset as the mid tone and shade with skrag brown and area highlight with yriel yellow for a more desaturated look. And edge highlight similar to what he's done in that video. Either way it'd be masochism to do on an army.
Personally I like my yellows on the warmer side. I find phalanx yellow far too cold and banana like.
