In this corona time, I’m looking for a new project so I decided to repaint my old lord of the rings miniatures from 2003. Since I was only 10years old when I painted these miniature the paint job is really bad and I want to strip all paint off and start off fresh.

I put some all cleaner and water in a jar and submerged the miniatures and let them sit overnight. As you can see in the photo most of the paint just fell off. But the paint that emulates the (steel/silver) armor is not peeling off even after 2 nights in the jar the paint in question is the old Mithril silver.

I was hoping that one of you could give me a tip on how to remove this more stubborn paint easily.

Thanks in advance

Denatured alcohol/ methylated spirit is your friend then scrub with a toothbrush, will strip in less than 10 minutes, safe on plastic

I use Dettol, seems like the best option in the UK (not sure if it's available in The Netherlands). I usually leave the models to soak in the Dettol for 24 hours and then the paint scrubs right off using a toothbrush.

Good luck finding Dettol in your local supermarket under the current circumstances. I'm sure shortages won't last forever though.

Use Isopropyl it's the only thing that really works well and fast. I recently stripped these guys from the old LoTR just like you. Alcohol and a little scrub. Good as new!
Edit: Isopropyl is available in UK you can get it on amazon prime for like a tenner for 2 ltr

seeing as youre using metal, you can also attack them with a stiff copper wire brush. this will remove tons of paint, and can get into those little cracks and crevices.
