Hey all
Back in the 90s in White Dwarf 154 Adrian Wild did a modelling workshop article on buildings, just generic stuff by the looks of it. In that article were a couple of photos of an Inn he made for WFB.
Photo of the Inn (taken from White Dwarf 154, October 1992) -
I'm looking to make my own version of that Inn. I did make my own as a child, with some card, a toilet roll (for the tower) and balsa wood, however I thought there was a "how to" article, or at least some further details (like dimensions), on how to build that particular Inn, but I cannot for the life of me find anything, just photos in various GW publications of the time.
Anyone here able to offer any insight into this?
Thanks in advance.

You should check out ms terrain lab on Instagram. They make this sort of thing with a more realistic tilt.
Personally I've never made something so large, but I did make a small cut off piece with a similar vibe for a lord of the rings diorama.
You'll probably find some sort of dense foam will be your friend here. Along with a stiff thin cardboard for the roof tiles. Extra stuff to add that realism all depends on your imagination and what you can find. I used model railway windows, warcry terrain bits, a hobbit hole chimney, wood coffee stirrers, and some old metal fence terrain to make the door. Along with milliput. You can see the pre paint stage in the last photo.

Thanks, they look interesting.
With regards to mateirals foamcore (or foamboard depending on where in the world you are) would be the go to material for the main walls, with plasticard/thin card for the details/roof tiles.
I'm more looking for dimensions/shape of the building, particularly the back end as I haven't come across any photos of the back (yet), although I suppose if I put the photo into Photoshop I can probably guestimate the dimensions.
I know that a standard sized toilet roll works for the tower, so I guess that gives me a starting point for the dimensions of that end of the upper tier...

Wouldn't that be in the 1996 wargames terrain book?

Not specifically. It was in a couple of photos though, it seemed to appear in photos in every article about buildings and every book to do with The Empire during that period, but again nothing of the back side, unfortunately.

I am continually impressed by Thumpingbear's aesthetic and execution in this exact style... check out his Mordheim P&M bloh here: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/782845.page

I would recommend a PVC pipe over a toilet role for the tower, cardboard tends to suck up the paint and get soggy.

Are you thinking of this article in WD 143?
It's 13 pages with templates and nicely detailed....
I can get a copy to you somehow I'm sure.

No but thanks. It's not the same building. I get the feeling Adrian Wild's Inn was never detailed in any article and I'm thinking when I built my version as a kid I guestimated everything.
@Kid_Kyoto - I would think a section of PVC pipe might be a bit too heavy. Used some before for a scratch built Thunderhawk (some 25 years ago now) and remember it being a pain to glue in place for a start.
I'd probably put thin plastic sheet over the toilet roll instead, the join seam can be disguised or sanded out quite easily.
So, that's the tower sorted. Lol.
