I assembled 4 of my Repentia today, my first modelling session. I played the Mechanicus ost in the background and felt like I was having a religious experience even though mistakes were made I still felt the surge of pride and the Emprah as i looked on my femme fetales and I feel safe kind of winging the model construction. My only problem is hand shakeyness and timing of the plasti-zaps adherence to the resin. I even turned a broken bit into a unique accessory. I never thought i'd be so satisfied

Do what you enjoy and feel comfortable with!

Keep some greenstuff around so you can "fix" any noticeable gaps or whatnot. Plastic putty may help, although it's only there to fill gaps, not for any impromptu sculpting you may need to do.

If you go further and kit-bash your own bits, I hear "oyoumaru" is good for casting bits. Dunno about big parts.

I'm trying to figure out what type this space marine is? I'm especially interested in the source of the helmet, if it's a kitbash.

I think the head is the tech marine head from the primaris vehicle kits.

I keep looking, without any success. Thanks for replying.

Spartan059 was veeeeery close - looks like it's a Ravenwing Techmarine head. Specifically, from the Ravenwing accessory pack, very top left head:

Looks like it's been filed down a bit to ditch the skull, on the model you posted.

Having had 3 sets of indomitus marines to play around with, I love winging it and seeing what cool poses I can come up with other than the like 5 you get.
Makes it more interesting!

For me it depends on
- price of the kit
- complexity
- what I want to use it as, since some I just buy for spare parts and the definite idea of kitbashing or converting it in some way

Often I end up doing a mix of both: checking which parts are similar across all minis of the box and then mix and match the rest how I want

If you go by the book, you'll end up with the same models everyone else has. Converting/kitbashing is how you make the models yours IMO. Its kinda like making sample-based hiphop, you gotta chop those breaks/samples and flip them to something original

I want MY models to be MY models.

Sure I'll follow the construction on something like a Thunderhawk or Landspeeder or something like that, but individual Marines / IG? I'll adjust them as much as I can while trying to keep WYSIWYG in mind.

True this does sometimes mean you've got either non Meta or sometimes non-legal models if something happens or changes but most of the people I play with don't sweat the little things, and it means I can have a personalized force.

The drawback of this is you sometimes end up with lemons. I *HATE* my plastic Catachans. They ended up with some completely idiotic poses when I look at them now. I've started stripping them because I developed a much better paint scheme than previously used on them but that doesn't remove the fact some have double sided swords or silly running poses. I shudder when I look at them. I'm doing the best I can to update their poses, but some parts are too specifically customized. Oh well.

It's neither a Primaris head or the Ravenwing head. More likely to be the head from a Stormtalon Gunship pilot, with the skull cut off.

They/them

I appreciate the feedback. I prefer to kit bash my space marines. I just finished one that is inspired by a USMC dress blues. And another that I am experimenting as an Irish influenced Marine chapter.
