Quick question here (well perhaps quick). I've noticed a large number of the Aleph models are "last chance" on the Infintiy webstore. Is this just them repackaging them (perhaps putting some individual into new boxed sets and splitting up existing ones) or are they doing a general "new edition gutting/removal" of models from the range? Since its too many vanishing all at once to suggest resculpting replacements.

For those interested the Infinity website seems to list them going off sale on December 31st.

Steel Phalanx is getting retired, so that's likely what you're seeing.

Do we know they're being retired? The rules are all still listed in the Army app, maybe they're getting new sculpts.

Yes. Remember that CB doesn't really ever 'remove' army lists.

I've only been around since the start of N3 but we also know that they don't sync rules releases to model releases and sometimes go back and revisit old concepts (Spiral Corps), or patch/expand older sectorials piecemeal (Montesa Knights, Blackfriars), or update core models in old sectorials (MO got a lot of updated minis in the middle of N3). I don't think Steel Phalanx is going to disappear completely.

Yes, and "retired" is the term they've used over this--which is something they've only been doing since N3.

They've "retired" a number of Sectorials, giving them 'last hurrah' updates in Army. It is what it is, but so far only Shasvastii have actually returned from being retired.
Also kinda funny that you say "revisit old concepts" and use Spiral Corps as an example when the Tohaa were basically released as a faction when N3 was being announced as on the way!

Please note that "retired" in this context? It doesn't mean "squatted". They seem to shy away from saying "permanently done with" like they did with the Exrah way back when. I don't know if these things will ever actually return or what. I do not really care all that much about it going forward. Assault Sub-Section("Steel Phalanx") is one of the last batch that are on their way into retirement. Caledonia, Steel Phalanx, Neoterra, and Qapu-Khalqi seem to be the ones going to the farm upstate.

It really just means that Corvus Belli won't be producing those models anymore, at least until they decide to make them again. They won't ever remove a sectorial from being playable. You just wont be able to get new models.

CB has a rather frustrating madness to the way they produce models. They'll actively make new niche models that are unnecessary to the game, or straight up useless, while ignoring gaps in their product line or ways that could alleviate their model bloat without compromising unit availability.

So basically CB is a bit like a 5 year old in a sweet shop who's been told they can have whatever they want, but is only given a small bag to fill.

Good news that models don't get rules cycled out and I do recall that with the myriad of models that have multiple weapons but might only have one or two sculpts the community is far more open to proxies (which is also easier because teams are much smaller). I've always been amazed that even now they haven't learned to do optional weapon arms for many models.

That said my starting at the Aleph has reminded me why I've never gone that far with them - they've got that "ghost in the shell" asthetic, but whilst they've a few cool models; so many are basically "guy or gal with gun". Though the newer mechs and such are more bulky and a bit more chunky looking than in the past.

That said the Combined Army has come on in leaps and bounds and is catching my eye far more!
