As the subject reads
I’m trying to workout a new scheme for my first space marine army (avid waaagh enthusiast). I’m overall pretty happy with it but i feel like it could be improved upon somehow. Somethings missing IMO. Tell me what you guys think!
Bonus points: help me come up with a name! Their fluff is that they had to perform exterminatus on a thriving imperial world that they were created to protect. Now their moon base overlooks a now barren deathworld and they crusade in order to get the big man’s forgiveness.
(Mind the quality, i’ve only just got back into this after i left the hobby during 6th edition when i was 14)

I really like your colour scheme, it looks great and I don’t think it’s missing anything. That being said, a chapter symbol would help finish the look, and if you are wanting to add something more to make them pop a bit more, instead of changing the colour scheme, perhaps change the base with an injection of colour? Some greens from foliage or sone other colourful base rather than the black/grey rocky base? As for names, based on what you’ve said, how about something along the lines of: Repentant Angels Penitent Warriors Atoning Guardians The Unforgiven Other sources of inspection for a chapter name could depend on what first founding legion/primarch you decide they come from (if you know?). What is their preferred combat style: melee, sneaky, lots of vehicles etc. What is their chapter symbol? (Something you can freehand easily or decals are easy to come by? The chapter symbol can really help inform the name- wolf, raven, angel, blood etc in a chapter name. Automatically Appended Next Post: Edit: A further thought- I found it helpful when making my own home brew chapter (Night Ravens) and deciding on their colour scheme, I’d go work out in advance how you are representing ranks and battlefield designation etc such as Company (I decided on pauldron trim colour) Rank (sergeant, vet sergeant, Lt, Captain, etc.) Battlefield role (battle line, close support etc.) How will you represent specialists ( Librarian, TechMarine, chaplain, apothecary etc. )

Thanks man! I like your idea about throwing some colour on the base. Much to consider now.
Also i totally forgot about transfers

Chapter symbol, yes, but as far as your color scheme goes, the shoulder pads are incongruent with the rest of the model. The red kind of comes out of nowhere and, being a large space near the top of the model, dominate the viewer's attention. I'd either drop it or add red in another place on the model (not counting the eyes). I like the dark blue you've got for the knees, helmet, and backpack, so maybe make the shoulder pads dark blue with the gold rims on both.
You've also got a few colors of black/dark blue that are very close together, but aren't the same. I'd make it all the dark blue like the helmet. Is there a reason, lore-wise, that the left arm is black?
The hands get lost in the model since they're a single dark color without too much highlight, and happen to match the grip of the bolter. I like the sort of pale green-ish color of the bolter, but I think either the grip needs to be the same color or it needs to be somewhere else on the model. Maybe the base, even.
I think you're really close to having a sweet color scheme, just needs a bit of tweaking.

These are great points. I don’t have any reason for the mismatched arms other than that I’m a fan of the look of it. I’ll probably come up with some excuse just to keep them there. As for the red shoulder pad I see what you’re saying, it kinda takes away from the blue. I wanted to throw in some red somewhere on the model but I might just have to save that for sergeant helmets. That or I use the red shoulder pad to denote sergeant status but tone down the red? I’ll definitely make the other shoulder pad blue and gold as well, I’ve already been debating myself on it. Thanks for the feedback dude!

The scheme looks really nice, but it will be a pain to repeat over several squads, with all the mismatched armour
For name I suggest "the Disinherited Knights".
Since they no longer have their home or the purpose they were born for.
I know the phrase from Ivanhoe, who is disinherited by his father, yet keep fighting by the code of chivalry to protect England and regain the favour of his heritage.

I’m just finishing up my first 5 man squad and you’re right about it being a pain. Satisfying nonetheless. Also thats an interesting tidbit about the name actually… might have to name a captain a derivative of or reference to Ivanhoe

UPDATE
Took your guys’ advice and fixed some things. Also I gave them a temporary name. (Still need to figure out how to base these)
Meet the Sentinels Devout Automatically Appended Next Post: For how they designate color,
-company colours displayed as I diagonal stripe over left knee
-sergeants have red helmets and red stripes on their shoulder pads (how else would they denote rank if they choose not to wear a helmet )
-vets wear white helmets (vet sergeant still has red striped pads)
-lieutenants have a silver helm
-captains have gold helm
-squad number on right shoulder in Roman numerals

They look great! Excellent layers on the red, too.
A job well done.

They look great! I think the warm bases work really well with the colour scheme!
Have you decided on a chapter symbol for the Sentinels Devout? (Or is that still a placeholder name?)

Thank you! I wasn’t 100% sure about the bases so thank you for the reassurance! I’m gonna order some transfers off of Chapter Customizer. Probably one of these two:

Excellent work. Seeing imaginative chapter colors is always a treat. Back when I was doing my own Chapter, I had slightly different color schemes to either indicate rank or other status. When I did it, I was pretty much a brand new painter, so I had the "upgrade" colors be something I used elsewhere so I didn't end up wasting paint or time prepping a new color.

Another thought could be they just call themselves "The Disinherited" internally, leaving their original name in place. Much like the Dark Angels and their successors also call themselves "The Unforgiven".
