Hi all, so, new to painting really. I mean I’ve painted models before but never with any real intention to have them looking special, more just a case of doing three colours to get points at tournaments

I’d like to get better

Attached is my latest leman russ

It’s ok, but I think I can do better. The way I pained was following the sonic paint studio walk through on YouTube

But it’s left me with a lot of streaks and not really a great finish texture

I’m really tempted to start over. Get the airbrush to it

I’m pretty happy with the green but the tan doesn’t have enough depth, the lows aren’t low enough and the highs aren’t really visible

Across the table it looks great

Close up it looks patchy

So, do I leave it alone, chalk it up to experience and get on with something else or do I airbrush the different colours again, then take more care on the wash phase, putting the wash into defined areas rather than an all over approach (to then be over brushed)

I’ve got another tank coming today, and a sentinel. The sentinel won’t have camo just the green and that’s not bad - mostly airbrush for a flat green and the wash/over brush/highlight technique works pretty well on that.

Anyway….would love some advice or even just a “what would you do”

I mean I’m not overly happy with the troops either but I don’t want to go round in circles never finishing anything constantly chasing perfection (which I won’t achieve lol I’ll just end up with detail-less models)

As much as my painting has improved and I would like to bring some of my older models up to my current standards, I always figure it’s better to take something off of The Pile of Shame instead; painted is painted and I’d rather have a fully painted army on the tabletop, even if a few don’t stand up to close inspection, than a sea of grey plastic scattered with one or two excellent models.

well, I couldn't do it.

REPAINT!!!

sort of...

I swapped up the tan colour to a darker zandri dust, gave that a good cover and then edge highlighted (soft drybrush really) with the previous Tyrant Skull.

So much happier with the result.

Just lenses and sponson guns to do.
