Hi there, I've had to move it to the regular painting & modelling section because the base was not done yet.

Good job on finishing the model!

I am noticing that the wash did not lay down uniformly. As a result some recess are not inked and the illusion of a 3D shape is not as strong as it can be.

This might help with uniformed washing on your next ork :
1- Try using Oil wash for the next model. Oil wash will get into every nook and carny and ink all recess very well.

2 - Or, If you do not want to buy oil paints just for a wash, then try adding a drop of dish soap to your acrylic wash mixture, it will help with surface tension and more uniformed wash.

3 - Or, Sometimes dunking whole model in water helps. Wet whole model, shake off the extra water until the model is not wet but still damp, and try to wash the model that is pre-damp. That will help the ink to pool into the recesses.

Can you take a picture of the model without using flash?

Working on any more orks?

1. Isn't null oil an oil wash? I did use that for that model.
2. interesting idea, I'd probably though find someway to feth it up tremendously, like Homer Simpson with cereal.
3. that...actually sounds like a good idea that I couldn't screw up, thanks!

I could try to not take a picture with flash in the future, I just wanted people to see the details is all and yeah, I'm gonna be starting an Ork Deathskull Meganob.

Congrats on the finished model, hopefully it is the first of many.

Nuln oil is an acrylic wash, it works just fine but you need to be a little more careful with it to make sure it pools into the recesses. I tend to gravitate towards Agrax Earthshade for my orks since it gives them a more dirty/weathered looks than the nuln oil.

Turning off the flash will help with the picture quality as will using a backdrop, here is a guide GW put out on how to photograph miniatures.

When people refer to "oil wash" it is implied that the paint is diluted not with water but with Petroleum distillates like:
Turpenoid, turpentine, mineral spirits, white spirit, Low Odour Solvent, ets

Whole point is in the Surface tension!
Solvents are much thinner and have less surface tension than the water and will get into tiniest details. Like hand sanitizer vs water.

Adding tiny bit of dish soap into Water based paint mixture also lowers surface tension of the water and helps water flow better instead of beading and pooling.

Fething it up is part of the hobby and learning process. You'll do fine

Null oil wash from GW I used to like, but now I hate it. It does not cover well, and dries glossy. I couldn't figure out GW washes and contrast paints, they just never worked for me at all. I moved to game color washes or just mix paint with water and a dash of dish soap.

A bit oftopic, but very nifty

Unless its the glossy formula, GW washes should dry matte. If it's glossy, then it wasn't shaken well.
