'@Para: 15 man 32mm Marine infiltrators for the win! I am already thinking that they will be murder to move around the battlefield.

Terminators will come, just 5 more Marines to go until one of my Calth boxed sets is done so they are up next after my 5 heavy bolter marines.

Am I right in thinking that FW have the small, red, crusade army lists back up for sale again? May have to finally purchase it.

@Grimdork: I think you have your priorities the right way round.

Man, those transfers are really nice! Much nicer than the ones you get in the CSM marine kits.

Yep, the Red Book is back in stock. There will be an updated version later this year I believe, but everything you have in your army is covered by the current one.

Crisp, and great looking marines.
Not sure what the non-40k stuff is, but it looks great, too!

@AOV: I should hope so given the price, but you are right they are a cut above the standard transfers and I have not even scratched the surface yet.

@Para: It makes the decision to not purchase any Alpha Legion specific units such as the Headhunters easier, that is subject to change though...

@Zambro:The non 40k (well 30k) stuff is from Warlord and Rick Priestley's Beyond The Gates Of Antares ( or on Dakka GoA) game. The miniatures are an acquired taste, but I like them and the rules are very good as well.

Have just finished a nightshift so am off to bed now but intend to make progress on my AL heavy bolter squad later in the evening.

Before I start...Hands up who is getting Overkill

Onto some Algoryn:

"The Armoured Infantry – better known as the AI – are the elite forces of their race. Amongst a people as proud as the Algoryn it is esteemed a great honour to fight as part of the AI. They are the first to confront any enemy incursion and the last to abandon even the most hopeless of positions. They carry rugged, practical weaponry in the form of mag guns and micro-X launchers, whilst their leaders are armed with mag pistols and devastating X-slingers designed for short range fighting. Their armour combines lightweight armoured plates and reflex field generators that enwrap the wearer from head to foot."

Got my first AI squad painted up for the February part of the challenge, 5 more men to go now. Not my neatest work, and I need to re-visit the skin on the unhelmeted squad members but they will do for now:

Next squad WIP:

And have also started work on my Shadow Force Solaq based Blood Angel Captain, very early days here:

Adios.

Looking good, this faction are definitely the GoA minis that appeal to me the most so far, I could almost see myself picking up a squad or two. Good to see you getting back to the boys in red as well!

I will absolutely get Overkill if it's still around when I have the money spare, that probably won't be until April at the earliest but so far as I know, there's no indication yet that the set will be limited edition; BaC has definitely had another print run, so hopefully this will either last until then or get reprinted down the line. A big box full of beautiful minis, I'll definitely get it if it's at all possible (sorry, all those I promised that I'd do Admech next, this takes precedence! )

Excellent GoA models, and that blood angel is coming along nicely.

Just head to the news and rumours...Deathwatch Overkill thread Grim. All is revealed in there. I am not too fond of the Deathwatch Blood Angel or the other jump Marine but the likes of the Iron Hand, Imperial Fist and White Scar are amazing.

The you get the Genestealer Cult minis...wow.

@Para: they are a good looking faction, and a fair bit taller, but slimmer, than a Space Marine. I will put up a comparison soon.

@AOV: and you have four times less minis to paint than your brother too!

Hey, I've been away from the site and the thread for a long time, but was delighted to return and see so much progress! Well done on all the Alpha Legion stuff from the Calth sets--they look great! Very clean, not too much detail (as befits a Legion of Alpharius-es) but nice highlights. I also like the lack of clear Chaos-y bits, leaving their allegiance ambiguous, as you pointed out. The army shots are my favorite--I love seeing a whole force come together like that.

The two Contemptors are also great, and look good side by side, when the subtle differences (nice free-hand writing, for example) really stand out.

Thanks for continuing to share!

Thank you for all of the kind comments and encouragement, I am aware that I am nowhere near the best painter out there but I pride myself on painting table top quality armies in a reasonably quick time.

So a bit more progress on my 2nd Algoryn AI squad, just the final highlight on the weapons and turquoise needed:

I also went a bit left-field with my next miniature. He has been lying around since Christmas but I thought I would test the waters for my Blood Angels Death Company...I just fear highlighting all that black armour. So here is my Blood Angels Chaplain with jump pack...no conversion work just straight from the blister. I even tried a tiny bit of freehand on the knee pad as well:

Thanks for looking...next up I think I will get back to my Alphas...and also probably my Blood Angels...and Algoryn...and buy Deathwatch: Overkill

Damn, that Chaplain is cool! Really good stuff! Really like those Algoryn too.

The minis you produce are definitely something to be very proud of, you may say they're tabletop quality but I'll say that for a fact that they're better than a good 80% or so of what I've faced on the table over the years I've been gaming!

With black armour, dry brushing is your friend Though what you've achieved here with mr Jump chaplain is pretty bloody (no pun intended) good! I'd be happy with that! I don't know if it's the lighting but the eyes could do with brightening up a bit. I always find a set of baleful helmet lenses is mandatory for a chaplain. Gotta strike fear in the enemy!

@Para: Blimey, you are mega quick on the draw for replies. They look even better from four feet away!

@AOV: Yes, I certainly need to brighten the eyes a fair bit it is a bit tricky as they are so recessed. I think I may go the drybrushing route on the Death Company.

As for now I am just cooking up potential Genestealer Cult colour schemes...so many choices.

Haha, must've clicked on to the thread just as you posted!

For the Stealer Cult, I say that since they're such a classic part of older editions of 40k, go for a look that harkens back to the artwork of that period. Very grimdark, very horrory (that is a word! ) quite muted tones. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for them, I'm splitting a box and taking the Deathwatch half for the moment, although if it's still around in the summer when I have a bit more cash to spare then I'm not ruling out buying a second set for the Stealer half, those are some lovely minis!

Those alphas look great. What paints did you use for their teal armor?

Your antares stuff looks great too. I've been thinking about getting the starter box, heard good things about the gameplay.

@Para: I am just not very good at Grimdark...I think it is because I Iike a dark basecoat and highlighting all the way up to something bright. Maybe I need to learn to show some restraint?

@AOV: I think you have a great load of minis to come there...I am still unsure over the Deathwatch jump Marines...I am still a bit gutted that the Blood Angel is my least favourite pose.

@BaronVonSnakPak! Welcome to the blog, I spotted you posting on the News and rumours Deathwatch thread...mainly because your username is one of the few to actually make me laugh. Well played Sir, definitely the best username on Dakka IMO.

The recipe for the Alphas is (All GW paints):

Sotek Green: Runefang Steel 2:1 base coat
Drakenhof nightshade wash.
Same basecoat mix highlights.
Drakenhof nightshade: Water 1:1 wash to knock it back a little.
Apply weathering where desired.

And that is about it.

GoA is a great game, and it seems to be growing as well. If you do social media there is a very good facebook group for it. The starter set is a great purchase...that reminds me I still have about half of it to paint.

My February pledge is done, so we have two 5 man AI squads for February:

And my small Algoryn force:

All told I have painted 44 miniatures in 2016, I can hopefully make it 50 before the month is out, the eagle eyed amongst you will see the Exalted Deathbringer that has been on the painting desk for months, so glad to have got him done.

Next up is my Alpha Legion Heavy Bolter Squad and maybe some Xenos test schemes...thanks for looking.

Now that's what I call infiltration tactics, 1 BA Chaplain who hasn't realised that ALL the men under his command, including a Dreadnought and his fellow commanders, are in fact Alpha Legionnaires!

Dammit, stop making me want to buy those Algoryn!

44 is a damn good total thus far, it's close at the moment (I'm on 42) but I reckon you might just destroy my total this year if you keep this up! Good stuff!
