Some important news regarding Zombiesmith.

Best to let him tell you himself.

Josh has a new company partnership project…. Strange Plastic

… and he has a lot of plans for the future of the Quar, including STLs.

So, Strange Plastic will be selling the minis as 3D prints? Or are they casting them in some medium? The video was kind of rambling.

I am a bit confused on how exactly Josh is going to be doing things, which items will be with Zombiesmith and which with Strange Plastic for example.

It does sound like he has finished the Quar box art for Wargames Atlantic plastic Quar so with luck we will see them in the wild before the New Year.

Can we actually get a synopsis? Not all of us can watch an YT video at work, and I'm curious how any news would regard the plastic Quar that Wargames Atlantic announced

Josh is giving up his part time film and computer gaming career and transitioning to making minis full time. Some Zombieamith lines will be temporarily unavailable as new molds get made. He is starting a new partnership project which is called Strange Plastic. They have a sci-fi Kickstarter on the horizon.

As to the Quar. He finished the box art. WGA should be printing the boxes now. When WGA releases the plastic Josh has 12 monthly releases of metal Quar, new sculpted figures as well as accessory pieces for the plastic Quar. He will also have 28mm scaled vehicles. And he will sell STLs so that folks can print Quar bodies for all their spare plastic Quar arms and heads.

P-Puddle BASES!

Bad, bad choice. I hope there's time to correct.

I do not mind puddle bases but they do seem to evoke a strong reaction from some.

Given it looks like those are Siocast being done by Strange Plastic / Zombiesmith rather than the HIPs from Wargames Atlantic I suspect they can course correct if enough folks let Joshua Qualtieri know how they feel.

Qualtieri, Quar.

I can't believe I never noticed that before.

As far as I know they are not available yet. They should be available from the Zombiesmith and Strange Plastic websites at the same time the plastic Quar kits become available from Wargames Atlantic. Josh mentioned that he hopes these end up with the same retailers eventually as all the Wargames Atlantic kits.

Does anyone know when WGA are releasing the plastic Quar? Is it in the next month or so? As I can't wait to get my hands on both the WGA Plastic set and Blaster packs

For some reason I was thinking it was stated that Quar from WGA were going to be out this year. But it’s looking like I imagined it.

WGA and Zombiesmith had stated they expected the plastic Quar to be out by the end of summer 2023 but like many things in this hobby it has taken longer than planned. Joshua Qualtieri stated he finished the box art for the WGA plastic sets not too long ago. I seem to recall WGA said they were waiting for boxes to arrive from their printer company.

So any day really as far as I can tell.

JQ has said he will release new figures and STLs on a monthly basis once the new Quar box set from WGA is released. Some of the new figures will be limited editions physically such as the two in the photos below but will remain available as STLs.

WGA has said they will announce the release date of their Quar box set after the holidays.

I've got two 15mm companies that I still haven't painted yet, but I'll still pick up that box set.

Do we have any firm date for the release of the Plastic Starter set "Clash of Rhyfes"?

I need to buy a box set.

No release date made public yet as far as I know but both WGA and JQ have said “soon”. I check almost every day as I am somewhat obsessed with the WW1sci-fi anteaters I did not know I needed until I saw them. JQ has said he has many more designs on hold for release once WGA releases the plastic box set.

I have a thread over on Lead Adventure with a lot of links regarding info on Quar, for the curious.

Since I haven't seen them elsewhere, here's some images of the first waves of additional packs that can supplement the boxset:

Coftyran is-Caertens (in-universe equivalent to platoon lieutenants)

Crusader is-Caertens

Coftyran RCO team (pedrail-mounted light artillery)

Crusader Torpedo team (anti-tractor weapons)

Coftyran Trench Raiders

Crusader LMG team

Great paint jobs on those. I know Quar usually hide their eyes beneath their hats and helmets, but I particularly like those Coftyran Trench Raiders with the eyehole helmets.

The Quar have a great old-school, self taught artist comics look to them, which reminds me a bit of Vaughn Bode, Ralph Bakshi's movie Wizards, and Dave Trampier's (R.I.P.) Wormy comic strip from old Dragon magazines. Qualitieri's been doing Quar stuff for a very long time, so their old school comics look isn't surprising.

Hey, Qualtieri should do a small-scale Wormy skirmish wargame! Stylistically and qualitatively, he's absolutely the man to do it. Wargaming played a prominent role within the Wormy strip: the strip had it's own Wargame that the main characters played, "Siege of the Iron Keep," which featured living troll minikins battling it out within artificial castle set pieces, so it's a natural fit. Having met Qualtieri once and discussed Wormy with him at the time, I know he's a fan. He's even got a folder that collects all the old Dragon magazine Wormy strips.

Speaking of Wormy, if you like comics at all and haven't heard of it, it's one of the last great undiscovered (by comics enthusiasts, because it was published in an 80's D&D magazine) treasures. Beautifully illustrated, well written (with narrative hints of Pogo, a strip Tramp adored,) and genuinely funny with great characters in a fully realized fantasy world, evocative of but adjacent to early D&D. It's amazing that, due largely to Tramp's reclusive lifestyle and residual anger at how he was treated by TSR, Wormy still hasn't been collected and published. Unfortunately the second story arc - where Trampier's art and narrative fully bloomed - was never completed, but there's so much good stuff there that it ought to be collected and published anyway.

Those look fantastic with tank!
But what is the release date for the 'Starter' plastic box set. I need to put some money aside to buy them.

Wargames Atlantic has so far only said “soon” and in “production/assembly”.

JQ has repeatedly said he will release his new metal and resin sculpts, including vehicles, once WGA releases the plastic starter box set.
