Did they originally have those face masks, or is that your doing? Because they look so much better with them. Remind me of Russian infantry.

Also good to see you back from Australia!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

It's great to be back, mate.

Only one of them got a face mask, a harlequin mask. Guy on the left got some DElf crossbow flanges as a sort of Khaineish headdress, and two other guys' faces were cut down and melted, with one getting an Eldar beard from the crossbow stock. One guy just got some bling and a beard made from an Ellyrian's bow. They all got some kind of backpacks and some grenades or other techno greebly.

After replacing the one face, and after unsuccessfully attempting a full head swap, I decided that less was more.

At the Bring'n'Buy, someone gave me a good deal on Eldar bits, so I can finally finish some of my fleet. Unfortunately, I won't get to put this together for a while due to family drama.

I've started a new project log. Soon I hope to add my Eldar conversions.

Today I'm posting some of the more recent Star Trek conversions I've made. I was motivated by Ex Astris Scientia, and their project to identify all the blink-and-you'll-miss-them background ships from the Battle of Wolf 359, the Qualor II Depot, and the Void. That's why I call this project The Battle of the Qualor Void.

They are all based on either the Wizkids Attack Wing minis or the Ascendancy board game markers. Hopefully I can dig out and finish some of the more involved kitbashes built from scale model kits. If I can keep motivated, I even plan to paint these minis--I bought Gundam markers for all the panel lining I'll have to do. Any recommendation for paints or paint schemes to use? (I'll test them out on a redshirt Miranda class.)

First, here you can see the wreckage of Admiral Tolstoy Kyushu Melbourne's grand fleet.

If it loads, the second picture should be the one I call Curry Queen, based on two of the infamous DS9 kitbashed "Frankenships".

Third is a pair of post-Dominion War explorers and a Romulan logistics/support ship.

Lovely! great name for the Admiral too.

And I do love the shout out to Ex Astras, whenever I start to think I put too much time into various hobbies and fandoms I head over there and feel much better about myself.

for color schemes, that's hard, vary too far from the TV schemes and it just doesn't look right...

Nice, look forward to seeing how you progress! On the painting side have a look on youtube (search for attack wing painting) and there are some great tutorials posted.

OMBob You are going to PAINT those ships?

I'll do my best to keep you motivated and nag you incessantly.

Was the Curry Queen an actual ship name? Because it's awesome. I'd totally eat at a restaurant called the Curry Queen. Maybe it would be a curry house version of Hooters or the Titled Kilt.

Except in Space.

You can keep me motivated by means other than nagging.

It's a play on the names of two similar ships that fans often confused for each other, the Curry and the Raging Queen (a.k.a. the Racing Queen). My kitbash is not identical to either, but inspired by both. I essentially tore the Excelsior's head off its neck and attacked it to its rump, then glued some out of scale Constitution nacelles in its armpits...just as Roddenberry intended.

Thanks! That really helps! I spent so much time reading about the involved, pearlescent paint job of the studio model that I had no idea where to start.

It drives me nuts that the colors the ship models were painted and the colors they appear after studio lighting and processing are so very different. Do I dare to imitate colors that are the result of layers of deception?

As for Ex Astris, I'm glad someone (else) did all the hard work counting windows and pixels.

This one has been a long, long time in the planning and only finished this last weekend.

Yes, it is a Baio class variant, the Zap'ped. It was built at McQuarrie Shipyards, off the Planet of Titans. Admiral Bandai has demanded the construction of additional vessel types.

Heaven help me I got that reference.

Wonder if Zapped is on Netflix. Probably not since it was made before 2010, the year movies were invented.

Is it sad of me that I still remember this scene from that stupid movie? It irritated me so much seeing what they did to that ship model.

All that's missing is a Charles in Charge or Bob Loblaw reference while you're at it.

The most important part is on YouTube.. This was one of the few 80's R-rated comedies where I skipped past the nudity.

(Although the first time I saw Evil Tunes I was really hoping for a scene of Dick Miller and David Carradine fighting cartoon monsters. Sadly, that movie didn't deliver.)

I finally got some of my minis painted. Which of these four test subjects do you think looks more authentic for Star Trek?

The brown line on the "excelsior" is supposed to be a phaser strip. My wife thought red and "charged" was a better look, so I used that on the intrepid and nebula. Do you think they are too bright? Is the brown too indistinguishable from the shading?

Nice ships Bob, my preference is for the Nebula as the Intrepid looks a bit too grimy and the Excelsior not blue enough across the hull. They all look good though. On the phaser array I prefer the red but think it is a little much on the Nebula but looks perfect on the Intrepid.

Consider me duly impressed sir. Your ships came out quite nice.

I'm leaning towards the red for the phasers as well.

There is something quite rewarding seeing a figure from random parts all the way through to a finished paint job.

Hopefully once we're home we can get a chance to take your painted Brimstonians for a spin.

I’m back to working on spaceships! (I do have some space marines, but keep putting them away instead of photographing them.)

These are for Dropfleet Commander. I was building a ragtag fleet of defense ships converted from orbitals or build using repurposed space station module factories. Then TTCombat released the official Resistance fleet, some of the best damn spaceship minis on this or any other market. So, I’ll call these early UCM or lost colonies ships. Oh, and I built a battleship.

How much of those are stock resistance ships?

I know they were designed to be quite ramshackle and cobbled together. They look quite nice.

I guess I gotta start working on some ships soon too, don't I?

None of them. I have some stock Resistance ships I can take pictures of if you want to see them.

These were mostly made from the Space Station sprue with a fe bits of bases, pegs, sprue and a couple Resistance bits (which allowed me to cut some pretty big corners for the battleship).

So, I had some more UCM bits left over from the KS, so I built a battlecruiser. It turned out even bigger than I had intended. I was thinking of extending the hull backwards like I did with the battleship, but it’s already big enough maybe.

I call it the Camelot class (similar to the Avalon/Perth). Every UCM fleet needs its super laser battlecruiser. My head canon is that the UCM has spread out their starship construction yards to several colonies and manufacturers away from Niccolum, allowing for variants like mine. I do not like the long double-flanged hull look of the official minis, so I did something different. If I ever get another UCM starter, I have ideas for a dreadnought that doesn’t have the fugly hull gap.

I also wanted to make it look like the laser was a separate component that could be swapped out for quicker maintenance or even replaced with standard mass driver cannon. The two enormous side cannon were supposed to take the place of the Avalon’s double-side-turrets, but I felt they did not look traversable enough and added a few more turrets just in case.

What do you guys think?

Also, do you drill out the little UCM thrusters?
