For some reason I thought they would have been bigger. Not sure why.
By all means keep posting pictures one at a time, because if other people are posting that means my own posting will intensify, and I'll go get more done.
I've found a combination of small pledges and tenacity really helps the project creators pull through for me. Do you remember the 6mm Armies campaign? Everyone laughed at me for requesting a smaller, sampler sized pledge so that I could pledge a safer amount in the project--well, who's laughing now? Besides their manufacturer, I mean.
As for their size, they fill out the same size base as the terminator-sized Peacekeepers, so they dwarf true scale humans, but they have a lot of negative space.
And I have to post one picture at a time if I post from my iPad. Dakka can't attach more than one picture from an iPad to a post due to Apple. I can try using photobucket again since I also prefer that format, but the last time I used that service it was buggy as hell and took wayyyyy too long. Nice, I like the inverted hull.
What ship was it orginally?
Thanks! There's more work to do to finish it, so I'll try to post updates.
It was a 1/1200 Missouri. My FLGS had a lot of stuff on clearance, so I picked up a couple of those and a Yamato. I'm not sure how I'll tackle Yamato yet; I don't want it to suffer comparisons with the anime space battleship, even though that was my inspiration. He sent an update a while ago saying they were waiting only on the rules and certain minis (not glorlons?), and he would send out orders to anyone with all completed minis who contacted him saying they wanted their stuff without the rules. So I did.
Yes, there was a shipping notice with a package number, but I think I got the package before it was 'active'.

Hey Bob,
I'll have to figure out a way to subscribe to this. You make sci-fi referential humor look easy and effortless. And you post cool figures, too, of course.
I appreciate the Glorlon posts and hope they'll hit retail some time so I can nab some.
As for your other recent postings: I'm quite fond of "Ennervate, ennervate" and "Nein!" And what you did with an otherwise pretty useless couple of Mantic elf figures was brilliant. What line does the trooper with double Mantic men-at-arms swords come from? Nice conversion there. I always thought those swords would go well with sci-fi models - particularly the "closed hilt" ones - given their style. It's why I still have my Christmas box Men-at-arms sprues somewhere.

Thanks, Vermonter!
The double-swordsman is a Proxie Models mini. They make some great Mooks, henchmen, or nameless security guards. The swords were absolutely the best part of the Men at Arms sprues.
And I hope the Glorlons come out soon, too. They look alien without looking like a direct lift from some movie or tv show.

That would be mine, now Bob's, Xenoshyft Orca model that was from the original Xenoshyft campaign.
It was an add on. I don't even know how many others were out there in the wild.
There was also an Ajax battle suit that served as a first player marker. I should still have that one, but the Orca was cooler.

I thought it was from Proxie Models. How did I end up with a Darklands base when I hadn't even heard of Darklands until you mentioned it?
Anyway, thanks for the Orca! It's pretty cool, alright.

I haven't posted pictures of my fantasy Yuan army project yet because they never really felt finished to me. This project began years ago, when WGF released plastic Samurai. I decided to try to Sinicize them to represent an army from a nation that had conquered Japan and brought it into the greater empire. Also, because there were no alternative minis.
Anyway, I would like to know what you all think, and especially any suggestions for how to improve the minis.
Also, now that Warlord has the samurai kits, they are no longer as accessible or affordable, which makes me reluctant to 'waste' minis by kitbashing willy-nilly to see what works. Most of the parts I planned to use in any numbers for my army are now discontinued or intercepted by Warlords. I'm thinking of switching over to using the FF Mongols for the main part of my army, although they are not much cheaper, and the kits are ...ugh. The scale is heroic, except for the swords. The options are minimal. The faces are goofy. The poses less inspiring.
Still, I'm going to try using GB Heavy Arab Cavalry torsos to make armored troops out of the Mongol kit, but I welcome any advice or suggestions that might make such an endeavor more successful.
Anyway, here is the first mini, made almost entirely from bits in the Samurai box. This would be the rank and file soldier. The blade is from the tanto. The plume is from the WGF Roman kit, now discontinued.
This guy represents an elite unit, or possibly an officer. I don't really have a plan other than seeing what sticks. His glaive is cut from a dark elf spear...now discontinued. The shoulder guards are halves of the WGF Zulu British pith helmets...also discontinued. The plume is from some GW chaos dude.
This is supposed to be an officer or noble. I am trying to give each character or officer a unique halberd, inspired by the crazy variety of pole arms used by the characters from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I would definitely try a different approach for the helmet next time. Shoulder guards are from the Mantic elf sprue. Which do you prefer in style?
Here you can see them all together. I haven't added side arms to them yet because I was trying to find weapons that looked more like daos or jians, but may settle for katanas on the rank and file and 'close enough' sheathed swords from the arab cavalry or from GW minis.
You can see the shoulder guards better here, I think.
I have a few other conversions in progress, but these were the ones that I found most represented what I was going for, as well as being the most completed. Now that Warlord has the samurai, I am left wondering if I should continue making more of these guys at all or if I should just move on and abandon the project.

Quite an interesting take there!
I love when you post your conversions, because they're so often made from so many different things- I never would have thought of cutting up helmets as shoulder pads!
Also just an FYI- Pegasus hobbies down in Montclair had a few of the WGF samurai kits at their original prices.
Of course that was probably close to 2 months ago I saw them there, but it's not like anyone besides myself seems very interested in picking up those older random kits.
Pretty sure they had the plastic survivor kits there too. Don't quote me on that one though, I know the samurai were there for a fact...

I really like those samurai conversions! Nice use of bits for making alternate pole arms, they really do grab some of the variety in early era Chinese weaponry. I really need to grab a box of the samurai next time I get the chance... I have neglected to do so for a long time, and now have to pay the price increase :(

Thank you, JohnHwangDD and Wehrkind. Unfortunately for my Fantasy Yuan army, my Gaming ADD knows no
I have Space Marines! Automatically Appended Next Post: The double blow of Genestealer cults and Custodes in plastic has forced me to dig out some of my projects and finish them. Also, I bought new ones. Probably shouldn't have, but there they are.
My chapter were the Sword Angels until I realized that name was already taken. Now they are the Knights Malachim (which lets me use the names from my old Angry, Angry Space Hebrews chapter), although deep in their hearts they will always be Sword Angels. My chapter is based on a shrineworld where the Emperor shed a single tear so I can use Blood Angel bits, and they are close with the Inquisition so I can use all the other bits worth using.
Anyway, this is the kind of thing I would do in the dark ages before we were blessed with the DA veteran and Ravenwing sprues.
And this guys was an early attempt at a Custode based on the 3rd edition artwork by Blanche.
And here you see my compulsion to put helmets on those space marines who have no helmets. I'll make an exception for Dark Angels in hoods because we all know hoods have forcefields in them.
This guy also needed a helmet. Yes, he was a $25 single mini...but he came with a free Deathwatch sprue! ...that I didn't use...yet!
What do you think of his back wings? I'm undecided whether to give him another pair of wings or a burning chalice.
This is my "Good Abaddon". I want to give him a name that suggests he was feared and hated while not actually accomplishing anything. Maybe Bar Kokhba or Trotsky.

I'll post some of my later, bitsier minis soon. Some of them took parts from half a dozen kits. The hardest part is putting down the glue and walking away.

Ah, but is he a space marine? I consider mine to be an Inquisitor in power armor... Okay, a Space Marine Inquisitor.
While I have used some very obscure bits, most of these conversions use DA upgrade/ravenwing bits and bits snipped off of DV minis. Automatically Appended Next Post:

Thanks, although I must admit I just used a spare DV captain's head. The Terminator Captain's helmet I had to convert from Ravenwing bits and a grey knight helm. Terminator helmets are cool and all, but I hate using them. Putting a plain vanilla helmet on an elite veteran feels like dating a cowgirl and insisting on missionary: an unforgivable waste of opportunity.

Hey Bob- if you're in need of Battle for Vedros boxes to chop up and convert, The Realm in Brea (off of Imperial Highway) had a few marines, orks, and paint sets. They said they're not sure when they'll get more starters in.
It just felt weird finding them in Southern California in an actual store. Even though they're a game store, which kinda defeated GW's purpose, but nevertheless...
Didn't you mention you've got some pieces painted by the missus? You need to show off the goods!

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I definitely want a starter and at least one of the second wave releases with the termies, but could sure take a look around and see what else inspires me. I'll have to alert that News and Rumors thread now, too.
I'll try to dig out some of the stuff she painted that hasn't been posted earlier. They're mostly Tyranids and unfinished dragons. Mostly. We also painted a lot of BFG ships and Babylon 5 ships, but unfortunately a lot of them succumbed to the great Textbook Box Dropping incident two moves ago. Automatically Appended Next Post:
