You may know me for my kitbashes, but here something completely different.
This will be a long project for all of 2024.
Between gifts, trade and ebay I got a lot of space marines.
Originally I simply wanted a kill team made with the old Starquest miniature, but now I have an army. Maybe two.
Total noob here, and I have no idea what to do with all this stuff. Which weapons belong to Which unit, how to make units, etc.
At the moment I have:
1 rhino
2 dreadnoughts
5 BA terminators
1 techmarine
2 chaptains
1 DA chaplain
70 (holy cow) space marines between starquest, monopose, tactical marines and heavy squads.
3 basic bikes
3 DA bikes
5 marines with jetpacks
9 BA marines with jet packs
1 captain with jet pack
5 scouts
5 SW terminators (almost, I'm missing the torsos)
4 SW old metal
10 SW Grey hunters
2 tarantulas turrets
I download the rules for 10th, studied the and I still have no idea what to equip, what to convert and what to scrap.
Maybe is Horus Eresy better with this stuff?
I was thinking to make a small army of Blood Angels and a 500 points Space Wolves boarding action, and kitbash the rest into something, but it is only an idea, I need help.
I don't care about a competitive list, I want a pretty army to display and play one evening or two.

I will say that those are definitely more 40k models than Horus Heresy models.
The big issue is how to divide up what you call just "space marines" with various weapons. Generally, you combine 4 heavy weapons and a sarge to be a Devestator squad (better if they all have the same weapon). Then, you combine 1 Sgt, 7 bolter marines, 1 heavy weapon, and 1 special weapon to be a Tactical squad
What you call "BA marines with jet packs" look like Death Company With Jump packs to me.
The Bikes all just run as Outriders now, they'll need bigger bases to be legal. Theoretically they can't get anything other than bolt pistols and chainswords, but nobody will care.
Those scouts aren't a legal unit anymore unfortunately, you can only have 1 sniper per 5 now. If you kitbash them to throw some other weapons on them you could be ok.
You'll need a lot of new bases for these guys. The infantry should all be on 32mm bases, a lot of those look like 25mm bases.
Finally, in terms of the army itself, it's very heavy on frankly gakky infantry. It's not gonna be powerful. Most of what you have is also pretty cheap in terms of army-building. If you split off to make a SW Boarding Patrol, you'll likely end up needing a lot to buff up the main army (which isn't a bad thing because you use that to also get more powerful stuff, particularly anti-tank).

Thank you for the helpful suggestions.
The bases are not a problem, I have plenty of the right size, and frankly I don't care about power.
My real problem is not to paint an awful lot of the same unit. Still, I'd like to have something playable to learn the game.
Maybe this can work as a plan:
Blood angels:
I begin with a tactical squad (I have already the space questo one, but I think I nerd one more).
Then devastator squad.
Assault squad with jump packs
Death company with jump packs (or I convert both into Dearh guard)
Terminator
Dreadnought
Death company dreadnought
Rhino
Heroes
Not necessary in this order, but maybe this can be a roadmap.
What do you think?

I'm not great at writing 10E lists, especially ones with marine infantry, but how does this look? HQ 75 Chaplain with Jump Pack 80 Captain 65 Librarian 55 Techmarine BATTLELINE 160 10 Tacticals 160 10 Tacticals OTHER 260 10 Death Company 185 5 Terminators 150 2 Firestrike Servo-turrets 150 Furioso Dreadnought 135 Dreadnought 130 Predator Annihilator 120 5 Devastators 95 3 Outriders 95 3 Outriders 55 5 Scouts TOTAL 1970 Points +30 points for an enhancement of your choice Dunno if the Firestrikes should be together for overwatch and not giving up points or separately, but since you've got some old turrets with lascannons I figured you should work them in  Word is they are not good!

Even better.
If I'm going to use the old starquest minis, I can use the extra 2 tactical squads for the space wolves, or another chapter (I noticed that one of the squad has dark angel insigna, but it can be shaves) .
Or to kitbash some legion of the damned.
