Aaaaawww, it really looks like the AT-AT is motherly leaning his head over the scared little warhound, saying stuff like "Don't mind the noise. It's going to be allright." Very cute.

If you make the top come off the AT-AT you can probably use it to play kill-team or =I=munda or something similar inside it.

While this stuff looks amazing something about mixing the universes just doesn't appeal to me. My fluff alarms just start ringing to hard haha.

I can certainly understand that point of view, for purist of both the 40k and star wars settings it can be quite jarring to see them slapped together into one setting. Regardless of how well I may paint or model the stuff I know that not everyone is going to be a fan of the project simply because of the clash of settings.

Honestly I wasn't so sure about the project when I started but the more I tinkered with stuff the more it grew on me. As evident with the Emperor's model not everything is going to blend seemlessly and there will be bumps in how it pairs up with 40k. I'm sure down the road I'll figure out ways I could have styled certain parts better, but that's part of the learning curve.

That's why I'm keeping this project as my fun army, my decidated army is a templars one that way I also have something that's straight up 40k.

I'm somewhat stuck on my AT-AT options, there 3 distinct sizes I can work with.

The largest is the AT-HE made from the toy, this would fill the role of an emperor. t(he reason I'm thinking emperor over warlord is the troop capacity)

The second largest AT-AT option 1 - could be used as a warhound, at 12 inches (14 long) it's slightly taller than the warhound and much longer.

The smallest AT-At option 2 - could serve possibly as a landraider? It's 8 inches tall (9 long) so it's a bit longer than a raider but with the height it'd be hard to represent the access points and assault ramp unless I figure out a way to fudge it.

Here's a pic of all the various options set to the same scale, the silouettes are the AT-St walker (treated as a dread) Landraider and a marine.

Would using a smaller AT-At as an oversized landraider look particuarly out of place? Is it simply odd?

(The scale of the AT-ATs from the movies would be the warhound sized one. )

The model below (by Bruno Rizzo) looks to be built off the 8 inch model, and mixes in a good amount of GW bits. Not sure what he plays it as, but it does look fairly large on the table when it's the only AT-AT on the table. But I think if I place one of the larger scale version down around it it suddenly starts feeling more like a pygmy AT-AT (AT-SE aka AT-ShortEdition )

The thing I like about Rizzo's version is the GW parts, I'm not sure how well the models based on stock star wars kits would be recieved by the GW bunker staff. I know that Rizzo's version would have little to no problem as there's a ton of GW parts forming the majority of the piece. But I don't know if that's something I should even worry about. The landspeeder head and add on parts make it look distinctly 40k, and I like the model, but I'm a bit conflicted on how well it represents the AT-AT's distinctness.

And alongside his guard army:

I hadn't seen these until I was well underway with my project. I wish I'd seen these before I started my army as I may have gone with guard instead, but having marines will give it it's own unique flavor even when held up to his stuff.

To sum up my thoughts on all that you wrote: Stay the course.
Personally, I think the AT-AT that he has looks slowed, especially when put next to the models that are only 1/3 of it's height.

Keep up what you are doing, and your Star Wars force will kick the crap out of his.

Well, the official Star Wars explanation actually makes sense. The explanation is that in the instances in the movies where the main characters are fighting Storm Troopers, they are either under orders to fire on Stun, or for some other purpose.

AKA

-on the Death Star 1, they were supposed to drive them towards the M. Falcon
-on Bespin they were supposed to lure Luke towards Vader
-on Bespin they were supposed to let Leia and Chewbacca escape

I would recommend to make this "GW friendly". Replace the guns with GW cannons and (this may be rediculous) either use or make the feet of the AT-AT look like the warhounds feet and maybe even replace the head to be a warhounds head. Then add various bits from other kits to add armor.

To hell with that! Why compromise on an army that's being made entirely for fun in the first place?

The reason I could think of would be that the rest of his army is actually playable in most settings, while that AT-AT wouldn't be. But of course, if you are playing a non-tournament Apoc game, then most people would probably be okay with having the AT-AT be a "counts as" for a Titan...it gives them a bigger target (and more side armor shots) than a normal titan anyways.

You know you have a crappy day coming when you are at work less than fifteen minutes and somebody decides to hit you with a metal chair (literally) just one of the many joys of working with crazy people at a rehab clinic. <_<

That's how my 16 hour day started yesterday, then on top of it for the second time in a row I forgot my styrene at home, although I managed to remember all my bits. I am going to start stapling sheets of it to my work shirt so I can't leave it at home again. Fortunately my wrist didn't get broken although it hurt like heck and I got some modeling work done, the rest I finished up tonight as this time I remembered to bring in my plastic.

Here's this weekends shot of star wars love, the first scout speederbike.

The bike is done but the rider needs a lot more work, his arms need to be reposistioned and the handle bars moved. It doesn't look right with the arms extended straight and it blocks sight of the head. Straights arms are for hog choppers, he needs to look more like he's riding a crotch rocket sport bike. I'm going to move the handle bars closer to the body and his arms will be changed so they are at a 90 degree bend at the elbow. (I'm probably not keeping the shotgun)

His head will also be replaced with a scouttrooper helmet, this was just added for a test fit to see if the pose would work, the hole in his head is from having to hold it in place with a pin while it glued as the darn thing was next to impossible to hold.

The bike itself is pretty much done other than a bit of gap filling and I need to add a pair of control wires going down the steering collums. Outside of that the bike is good to go. The grenade launcher is magnetized so it can move or be replaced with the paired bolters.

As for the shooting stuff I see it like this, in the star wars universe they are supposed to be total dead eye crack shots, but they never hit the main characters because without them there's no story. The various no name rebels get slaughtered by storm troopers both when they raid Leia's ship and also on Hoth, and they can hit C-3PO a mile away blinfolded. So they do display some skill in the films. Also the force is supposed to be superstrong with those characters, so they are protected by it, it might look like luck but there's no such thing as luck when it comes to the force.

It's a private rehab site, they focus on a lot of differant things we have stuff ranging from eating disorders to hard core drug addicts and substance abuse.

Some of the ones going through withdrawl can get kinda violent as they want to get out (and we won't let them). People going through Heorin withdrawl are usually the worst to deal with.

I can't comment on stuff too heavily on it as privacy is a huge deal at my work, we can never name who our patients are outside of work. The majority of people we deal with are highschool to college age, although some are also older adults.

It's usually a pretty quiet job which is why I get most of my hobby stuff done there. This weekend was kind of the exception. Never can tell what is going to happen there, and it always seems like when you want it to be calm the most is when it explodes with the crazy stuff.

It's a bit depressing at times to see how bad some people have been messed up either through drugs or mental issues, but when you do help people clean up sucessfully and you can see them recovering it does feel quite good to know you helped change somebody's life for the better, so it does have some good upsides too.

BTW that avatar is hilarious

My continued search for cool star wars armies brought me to La French Waaagh!

It took me quite a while to navigate the site as my ability to read french is fairly limited, but I found rather cool stuff done by Marco. He's won their Golden Gretchin award for this army which is their (independant) version of a golden demon. The site has some absolutely amazing work on it, even if you don't read french it's worth checking out simply for the pictures. You'll want to check out the waaagh day galleries.

From what I understand his republic army plays as eldar, saving the trouble of digging through the entire site here's his pics:

Not my stuff, but so inspirational that I just had to share it. He has an amazing army.

Wow, thats some good looking stuff. Especially the BARC“s and Royal Guard look ace.

While I didnt know either that so many people actually built star wars armies, I have to say Im not suprised. Its a great theme with the potential for some killer conversions.

Im looking forward to more of your work as well though

I really like the IG/Eldar armies. Not that your lads are not off to a great start I just think that the theme lends itself to lighter infantry than Space Marines.

As to the AT-AT, I like the idea of running the warhound one as a warhound. Alternately, take a look at Bell of Lost Soul's "Lords of Battle" mini-dex for superheavies. The Leviathan type vehicles might be best for the big AT-HE with transport capacity.
And remember, all main character have 2+ invulnerable "Plot Protection" saves
