Azrael, i meant the tentacles on the arms reminded me of the whipping tentacles in the scene where it tried to kill the president with mind bullets. not the face.

but also not ruling out misremembering things, because i do drink alot.

how about some rules leaks people!

Well, even if the rules are not that good, those MC kits are a real good source for bits. You can swap almost anything.

Imagine a Haruspex with those upper arms going full tentacle terror. Or a Trygon with this head. And I guess those claws could be a nice replacement for the crab claws of the Tervigon.

That's certainly the impression you would get from these threads. I think the reality is a bit different. I'm getting OT though...

I think it looks okay, but as I've said time and time again, I'll take a decent codex that doesn't suck over a new model with mediocre rules any day of the week.

I don't know that everyone immediately accuses GW of ripoffs. At least i don't but it's only natural for your mind to frame something new to things you've seen before.

I just think its weird that everyone spends so much time trying to compare every new model to some toy or movie or whatever.

Maybe because everything in 40K is derivative by design and fostering associations with pop culture is part of how Games Workshop designs its models and markets its game to multiple target segments and demographics?

I mean, that could be why, lol.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

I think a more accurate statement is:

Maybe because everything is derivative* by design and fostering associations with pop culture is part of how forum goers express themselves?

To be fair, H.P. Lovecraft really did create something new under the sun when he wrote his stories. Before him, you have to go back to things like the Titans to find an analog for Cthulhu.

New model is pretty meh to me. Can't say I care for it, but it might be the weird stance. Of course, I just got my Malanthrope and I've got a recently-converted Dakkafex on my desk, so my plate is pretty full already, and this one just isn't pushing my buttons.

I have to say it is the first "alien" Xenos GW model I have seen in a while. Too many tyranid beasties have human aspects to them but that us just an outright monster.

As for the "looks like X" debate we are all such giant nerds that are first instinct is to associate the image with something we are familiar with. I think it looks like cthulu but that is the "nerd" talking.

Hard to tell since the angle of the pic is a weird one. But since recently I think that most kits GW released were awesome, i'm not too worried about it. Might force me to restart my Hive fleet Balrog

If this is a dual kit where are the pics of the other beasty?

(Not sure why but that sentence made me think of Vader's "If this is a consular ship..." line)

Probably inside the the WD.

The back legs look wrong to me. Like it's kneeling over. Hopefully that's not the case as it would look like it's already bending over to take a stomping.

I hope it's supposed to look like it's galloping along and that means 12" movement, hahah. But let's not be crazy, I guess.

Anyway, I want to see it from the side. It looks like it has some weird toxin gland on the back of its head which I'm betting the psychic bug won't have.

I can see where the two pieces of the tentacles attach. The tentacles look so flat and unnatural.

I'm rather curious what the psychic version of that will be. Maybe it'll be a giant Malanthrope?

Have to say that the Toxicrene looks much better from that angle. The Maleceptor - not a big fan currently. They do look really simple to magnetize, though. Just the front arms and the head!

The Maleceptors in the background I think have a better pose. I don't like how they are raised up on their haunches in the foreground. Eagerly awaiting better pictures (and rules)!

The maleceptor needs a better picture.

The Cthulhufex seems to have different chimneys and poison sacs on the carapace whereas the Chubby Mealceptor has spines.

It's probably a different top carapace as well.

Now then...

The ones in the background of that First picture...

Are they the same modesl as the ones at the front?
Or are all 4 of them Maleceptors?

The ones at the back look REALLY different to me...
Maybe its just the poses :/

The fat one looks derpy and the Toxicrene looks like a kit bash of a Cthulu mini with a Maulerfiend. Lazy. Would like more "horror" bugs than rompy stompy goofy.

I see the T-Fex on the far right, but the two behind the Maleceptors are either Maleceptors posed ALOT differently, or an unheard of 3rd variant of the kit :O

The new poison bug looks pretty lethal ruleswise, its ranged attack is a questionable range but in CC it looks to be a beast.

2+ Poison to wound, plus with likely ST6 rerolling against most stuff.
AP2 due to MC
T6.

So fast (initativewise), rerolling 2+ to wound and AP2

Can't say I'm a fan of the psychic version. Much prefer tentacle boy, pose wise it's a bit like a hound stalking forward sniffing the air.
