Looking back to my first post, from January 2016, it included a picture of some of my old blood angels that I was looking to strip and re-paint. Thought I'd give a quick summary of how those models are doing now.

This is the pic:

And this is how the models are doing:

Rhino - done
Land Raider - done
Captain - done
2 librarians - done
Assault squad - done
Dreadnought - done
Devastators - 5 done, 5 stripped
Bikes - stripped and reassembled
Land Speeder - stripped and undercoated
RTB01 marines - stripped, reassembled and undercoated
Terminators - stripped and reassembed
Tactical marines - stripped and mostly re-built as sternguard
Chaplain - untouched - there's no plans for this guy (there's another chaplain not in this pic that's been completed)

So there's a fair chunk done, and they're all at least stripped and mostly undercoated. And plenty of other things not in this first pic that have been done too. I wanted to get more done last year, but we'll see how things go in 2017!

Need to focus on getting those Vanguard Vets and Predator finished. They've been on the go for ages!

I just bumped into this blog through a random google search...can't believe I hadn't seen it until now! - there's even a link to it in your sig for pete's sake!

anyway, I've just poured through it from the start to the latest post and absolutely loved everything I've seen/read so far!

I might've arrived real late to the 40k party, only really discovering it around april 2014, but I've developed a real love for a lot of the classic models from the early years, and have managed to acquire a good number of them myself by chance, through many many assorted job-lots from ebay over the past couple of years...and while I may really love my orks, I think my assorted classic marine models might still be my true favourites...and this blog has just given me even more inspiration to finish getting the last of them stripped and ready for a proper paintjob

A bit of an update. I'm currently working on finishing my Vanguard Vets, Predator and my Rogue Trader Land Speeder.

Land Speeder -
This is for the Dakka monthly painting competition so I need to get it finished in Feb. Good to be doing some RT stuff

Vets -
I've been working on these guys for ages. Just keep getting distracted by other models. They're basically done, just need to finish all the magnetised arms.

Predator -
This guy's not progressed much recently. Just some washes. I'll get to him once the Vets are done.

Finished!

Some bits I like, some I'm not so happy with. I've been painting old metal RT stuff for the last year, but this is the first model that constantly had the paint on the edges chipping off. It's like every time I touch it more paint comes off

Still working on the Vanguards, they're almost done (how long have I been saying that!).

Started these guys back in September, so glad to finally finish them off. Part of what's taken so long is that they each have 3-4 arms and weapons - all magnetised up. That's why in 1 of the first 2 pics they all have power fists and lightning claws, and in the next they have a mix of swords, axes, pistols and shields.

Some close ups...

This is Sergeant Darke, part of Captain Stratos's Triune.

The next model I'm looking to finish is a (new) predator, but there will be more Oldhammer to come - still got plenty lined up, and next weekend I'm collecting an RT Rhino and Predator, and an old (2nd ed?) Leman Russ. The one with metal turret and sponsons.

Very nice ideas sir. I find it hard to believe that the dreadnought design changed so much over the years; it's an entirely different vibe between the RT era and the modern one.
Grand stuff!

Thanks for the nice comments @r3n3g8b0y!

Yeah, some of the designs have changed a lot over the years, but I do like the old models. Probably nostalgia more than them actually being better sculpts!

Terminators done!

Reasonably pleased with them. This is the 3rd scorched gun barrel I've done, but the first I've been pleased with. Still not exactly what I was going for, but it's okay. I didn't have too much of a plan for the serge's sword, but once I'd done the dark red I decided not to do more. I thought about adding some orange, but I don't think it needs it.

I've got another 3 that need painting, but they'll need to wait now. Predator is almost complete, so hopefully I'll be posting that soon.

The Land Speeder was the first metal model I've had difficulty with regarding paint chipping, but I had the same problem with the terminators. And as much as I love the old metal models - partly due to nostalgia, partly the general style of them - they're a PITA to paint! The details aren't as sharp as the current plastic models. Some of the skulls on these terminators are nothing more than blobs with eye holes! And talking of skulls, there are over 20 of the tiny little buggers on serge!

Still got a few metal models to paint. And still all the old RTB01 plastics too. Once the predator is finished I think it'll be bikes. There's 2 metal ones and a bunch of new plastic ones too.

One of the things I'm currently working on is some ruins. Primarily plasticard, but most of the little details are old PC and laptop components.

Got my ruins finished off. They're mostly pretty basic - just plasticard walls - but I found that old PCs and laptops have a whole world of little bits that can be used for details. Capacitors make for great barrel type pieces!

Back to a little oldhammer stuff. Not sure exactly how old this Mk I bike is, but I've had it since the early 90s. It's definitely from the RT era.

Being metal, the bike was a bit of a pain. Slightest knock and he came off the stand (about 3 times!) and he kept chipping so much. Had to just keep repainting the edges. Gotta be so careful with those metal minis!

I've mentioned this guy a few times, but he's finally done. I just needed to get some of the options – like the pintle-mounted storm bolter and hunter killer missile – finished off.

Both side sponsons, the guns on the sponsons, the turret/gun/top hatch and the storm bolter are all magnetised. And the radar/hunter killer missile atop the turret are held in place with a pin. This means I can swap out everything and change this between a Predator, Razorback or Rhino. I have the autocannon and heavy bolters for the Predator magnetised, but not painted up. If I find I want to use them, I’ll get them painted.

And I’ve called the tank Invictus – Latin for ‘unconquered’ or ‘invincible’ – after some pretty good showings in a few games. Let’s see how it holds up in 8th ed!

Oh, and to see more on the magnetising, look here.

Looking good. You may want to consider painting up the Predator Auto cannons, from what I've seen they look pretty tasty in 8th.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, the autocannon might quickly become an option for me. I've also got an RT predator that's got the autocannon on the turret and lascannon sponsons. But it needs stripping and repainting. Too mamy models, not enough time!

Although I love the old RT models, a lot of them are just metal lumps! The bike is definitely one of the worse though. Thanks for the positive comments, glad you like it!
