Even with those lipped bases?? Interesting.

Lipped bases? I use standard GW ones. Models always lose balance or slide around on the original RoB.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

I agree. I'd definitely be buying it for steampunk gaming, but I'm unlikely to get over the cost. Sector Imperialis is £220 for 6 tiles, so I'm expecting £240? Maybe £260?

I quite like the visual direction they're going in, they're taking high fantasy to the next level. I definitely miss the grit and horror of the Old World, but AoS has a mystic presence few lore sets I've encountered can match.

And I think the board would look fine under 40k, Warmahordes, Malifaux, and a million other fantasy based games I've seen on KS. But not most sci-fi like Infinity. 40k has a baroque style that I feel would integrate well though, especially for Tzeentch or Inquisition.

It's supposed to be an orrery:

And even then few of the circles set into the board are actual cogs, most have astronomical-type graphics with no legitimate cog teeth.

That is an awesome picture!

Sept. 19 Preorder

Two new clampacks, both 23€/18£/30$ if I remember correctly:

- Slaughterpriest, kind of a tall dude so he shall stand out in an army. Good looking model IMO, remind me a lot of the old Confrontation giants for those who remember them.

- Skullgrinder, regular looking Khorne guy n°2456, Blacksmith who fights with some sort of flaming flail hammer... no wait scratch that, it's a flaming flail anvil! Don't ask, I think Khorne dudes believe you don't hit the metal on the anvil, but that you hit the metal WITH the anvil.
Big problem I have with him is that he suffer from the same problem that many Aos miniatures already have: despite being a clampack, in the middle of an army he looks so much like the rest you'll probably lose sight of him. Better make his flames really stand out when you paint him.

- Also Khorne Army Book, same price as the Sigmarines one.

- They appear to be some repackaging of Khorne miniatures for AoS, but their price was not listed in the WD. There is a new Skullcrushers box that now contains 6 of them instead of 3.

Next week hints refer to a pariah/outcast, a victor and some Zone Mortalis stuff I believe.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

These new unit names are fantastic. GW is really pushing the envelope with their new trademarks. I'm glad they didn't go the easy route give their units silly names like Wrathborn Bloodskulls, The Bloodsoaked Slaughterkin or Doombane Slaughterpyre.

Bloodcrushers and Skullcrushes are both different.

Khorne Bloodletters that ride Juggernauts are Bloodcrushers.

The skullcrushers are mortal khorne knights on Juggernaughts. both have seperate rules for AoS

Edit: Preorder of Sept 19th?, its always a week after that for release right, so 24th/25th?

something (I think it was the skullcrushers) are meant to be being repacked as 6 rather than 3 per box,

Then need to buy sqaure bases....still tis a good saving, might even start on a khorne force for my Warriors of Chaos (WHFB)

It's s shame GW don't include both base types and keep all their customers happy.

Not really a problem given how many 3rd parties sell compatible bases for WHFB.

Considering I prefer Specialist games. Kirby trying to keep only profitable ranges seems well Extremely sad but true... this what happens when a company goes public...

This AoS thing has really highlighted the schism between online fora and actual reality.
Also is a great demonstration of how a LGS's attitude towards a product line can seriously impact sales of that product line.

Including split boxes sold on eBay, we have sold 55 boxes of the core set of AoS. I have to restock AoS every week. We host multiple games throughout the week, probably 5-10. Campaign starts October. It's doing well for us. But then again we don't bad mouth it online or in the store.

Our Warhammer community isn't super competitive, that probably makes a big difference.

Yeah right. It's definately not the fault of GW for trying to sell us an expensive yet faulty product.

Absolutely not their fault.

Every FLGS that drops GW for any of the other games is a good FLGS. On the long run they will make more money and we can finally leave that BS GW behind.

This seems like a nice, reasonable argument. Has it ever occurred to you that some people actually like some fraction of what Games Workshop produces?

I think that highlights the issue pretty well. If the local community wanted WHFB 9th Ed then AoS wasn't going to be well received but if the local community is receptive to a fantasy skirmish game then AoS should do fine. I think it's unfair to hold store managers as responsible for the local meta and game preferences. It's not the store manager's fault that GW replaces a mass battle game with a skirmish game that plays worse if you try to scale up to use WHFB 8 Ed size armies. I think AoS can produce fun games but I also think it plays best when I only put at most half of my army on the table and don't use them in big units. It also seems pretty clear that GW never intended for AoS to be played in highly competitive tournament style environments so it's not the game that will scratch that particular itch. It's GW's fiduciary responsibility to create games that are well received by their target audience, store manager's won't always be able to create a demand for whatever game GW decides to produce.

A raven whispered that Skarbrand is next week, 80 Pounds pricetag, and he is the Celestant-Prime equivalent for Khorne Bloodbound

That's quite a surprise although Darnok mentioned another large Khorne-related kit a few weeks ago.

With his appearance in 40K as well, it would be cool to get updated 40k rules for him in White Dwarf Weekly in addition to his AoS Bloodbound rules - but that's pure speculation on my side

Lexicanum:
During the Gheistos Cataclysm in M41, Skarbrand was sighted in a rampage directed against Space Marines of the Vorpal Swords who were attempting to relieve the Planetary Governor's Fortress from a Daemonic siege.[3] In 975.M41, Skarbrand would materialize on the Cadian-held Fortress World of Lutoris Epsilon. His berserk rage would go on to infect all he surveys, driving the Guardsmen defending the planet to turn on each other in mad frenzies.[4]
It is rumoured that Skarbrand was cloven in two by Dante when banished back to the Warp, at the Gates of Pandemonium.[2]
