So it looks like Chaos, Imperial Tau and Eldar all on the one sprue?

Seems somewhat odd. Have we ever seen a mixed sprue like this before?

Yeah, in the late 90s GW phased out the metal musician and standard bitz from their fantasy plastics and replaced them wtih an undead/chaos/ork/skaven sprue.

I have seen the release schedule but this doesn't show up independently on it if I remember correctly. I guess this will be one of the add ins for the vehicle sets, I wonder if you will get one in the baneblade set??

Oh man, anyone remember the old Stompers boxed set for Epic?  Ork Stompers and Dreadnoughts, Chaos Dreadnoughts and Androids, Marine Dreadnoughts and Terminators, Eldar Dreadnoughts and Wraithguard...  it was a mess.

Anyway, I think that this new sprue will be included in the big company boxes that are coming out for Apocalypse.

Twenty years ago the first Warhammer boxed regiments were like this:

I think I'd wait and see what they look like on the vehicle before I criticize them.

In WW2, the Russians could tell which the German command tanks were, cause they were the ones with the long antennae.

Anyone notice that the Imperial Guard get a big antenna and a fancy crest?

That's all that's needed. Command tanks don't look very different from the rest of the tanks in their platoon.

Why would they?

Word is that 'fancy crest' is actually the dish of the antenna.

For the same reason that most commanders in 40K feel the need to strap a huge bullseye banner to their backs, take off their helmets, and point at the enemy with their fingers instead of with their guns.

That's why my command tanks will just be normal tanks with the hatches removed and the commander's bald helmetless head sticking out.  Screaming.

Well this is a damned if they do, damned if they don't problem.

I'll agree with you that minis need to be dynamic and interesting, but therein lies the reflexive depositing of more and more skulls, scrolls, spikes, and screaming.

GW could have gone for fancy, or for realism. It's interesting that they tend to run the range (Elysians with HUD style visors, versus Vostroyans with wood handled flamers).

Pimp your tank it is...

Strange kit which is really perfect for battlewagon bits.

I for one use the "non-bald-sarge" for my armies since I started, not much you need special kits for. The choice is pretty much yours.

Let's see how these things look on vehicles, expecially those new funky mufflers in the lower right corner.

I don't agree at all.  Warhammer 40K is not a realistic game.  Half of the armies out there eschew any form of useful camouflage at all.  The only army that bothers to systematically assign camouflage to match their enviornment is the Imperial Guard, a meat-grinder organization where the commanders otherwise simply don't care how many of their troops die.   Furthermore the first and second most technologically-advanced races in the game lack spotlights for their vehicles.  Speaking of technology, the STC for holsters and pockets seems to have been lost because no one is allowes to carry more weapons than they can physically hold in their hands at any given moment.

The game isn't about realism at all.  It's about putting cool-looking models on the table-top.  If you want your tanks to be ultra realistic, make some antennas out of guitar string or whatever it is modellers use (3rd edition Space Marine Codex had some great examples of this) on your command vehicles and let that be all the designation you need.

Personally, I'm tickled silly that GW gave us a sprue of stuff NON-HUMAN ARMIES CAN USE.  I don't think I've ever seen an expansion to the core game of this nature that gave the rest of us a bone like this before.

Precicely my point with the Import Tuner picture. Although most Tau probably would do without the ground effects, I imagine there exists a Tau sept that doesn't bother with actual performance upgrades and just load up their Hammerheads with fart cans, cold air intakes, spoilers, etc.
